We will be sailing on the Mariner in November. Can any one give us some
suggestions on what to do while in Nassau ?

Have lunch at The Poop Deck (the OLD/Original one on East Bay street).
It's been around forever and has GREAT seafood and deserts. Plus if you
are so inclined, a small but nice selection of Cuban cigars at the bar.
I've been going there since 1978.
It's up on the second floor on the water.
It ain't fancy, it's just good.

I'd get over to Paradise Island and visit Atlantis if you haven't already been
there. The dig and aquarium are worth seeing. You can do a ship excursion or
just grab a cab or water taxi and take the tour that way. Its also nice
shopping in town if you have any extra time.

I did the snorkeling excursion to Athol Island and enjoyed it.

Stay on the ship. On Sunday most stores are closed.

If you have any interest in things "feathered" check out the Parrot Jungle.

If not, check out the Straw Market and the Shopping street. Prices there
are as good as St. Thomas except for the exemption.

Scratch the water taxi, as you will have to walk a few blocks to get to
Atlantis. Atlantis is very much worth seeing, if you have not already.

I dive so that's how I spent my last trip there, but the time beore we took
a city tour. I'd been there several times but never on a city tour. Once
while I was there, I hopped a city/island bus and just rode it around (but I
do that alot on the islands as I find it a good tour--usually one of the
locals will tell you about "local, non-tourist" places, etc.), but I realize
that alot of people don't like doing that!) I also like the Cable Beach area
much more than Paradise Island....Atlantis is the only reason I would go to
Paradise Island.

Stay on the ship and enjoy a nice day at the pool.

Nassau has had it's share of tourist crime and harresment.

A walk around the port is safe if you don't mind being asked if you want
a taxi countless times.

Staying on the ship is an excellent idea. As someone who is there
once or twice a week, i can say that it extremely dangerous,
particularly at night, and especially around the port. I know of
numerous people being assaulted, and more than a few women being
drugged in the local nightclubs.
On the light side, the shoppong is cheap, paradise island is amazing,
and there are some wonderful places to eat. try cafe matisse,
crocodiles (which has a wonderful waterfront view of atlantis), or
athenas (greek).

LOL! But true. Not too much going on after you've seen the straw
market and Atlantis.

Also on Paradise Island, though more obscure is the Cloisters, a medieval
european cloister brought over stone by stone (via a short spell in California)
and transplanted to the Bahamas. It is quite beautiful and the juxtaposition
of the old european stone structure against the Caribbean sea, sky and surf is
breathtaking.

Didn't say it wasn't safe. 'Just implied it was lacking in
interesting things to do and see.

Pretty much true. Still it is possible to make it interesting. Last
time I walked from the dock to Paradise Island. Met some interesting
folks at a marina along the way, and at the marina on Paradise Island.
