I hope this isn't a crazy question. I have an iPAQ Blackberry to
send/receive email. Oct 19th I am sailing the NCL Dawn from NYC to Bahamas.
Does anyone know if I will have reception to be able to use the blackberry
during the cruise?

There may be points when you're close enough to shore to get a signal.
Off Norfolk should work (my Verizon cell phone did). In Canaveral and
Miami of course it will work. It might in Nassau, though it could be
expensive. "Maybe" in Great Stirrup Cay.

I think the NCL ships have either been fitted with, or are about to be fitted
with, WiFi access. NOt sure about Blueberry, however.
Regards, Keith
(I'll have to check this out myself, perhaps next time on NCL I can just bring
my Tungstun C instead of the laptop) :)

It is very doubtful it will work anywhere onboard. If you haven't
noticed already these devices have a much harder time picking up a
signal than cell phones.

Not very much. Check and see if your service provider even operates
in the Bahamas.
If you can get web access to your email account, the Dawn has PC-based
satellite web connections in the Internet Cafe for something like
$.50 per minute.

I can't tell you what service levels you will get, but this is what I
experienced last week on the RCCL Adventure of the Seas. I have a 6210
Blackberry running on the GPRS Cingular network. This is the combo
Blackberry / Cellular phone. It worked perfectly fine everywhere in the
ship while we were docked in Puerto Rico. It did not work at all in any of
the ports (St. Thomas, Antigua, Barbados, St. Martin, & St. Lucia) and it
did not work while out at sea. Hope that helps...
