This hotel is a real rip-off. Run down and nasty. The parent company, Choice
Hotels International, states that since each hotel is "independently owned
and operated" they can't do anything about it. Beware of Choice Hotels.

Suggest you post your message to www.tripadvisor.com which has reviews of
hotels worldwide. There are two other messages about that hotel there which
are also both very uncomplimentary, to find what others have said about the
hotel in question just type in Rodeway Philadelphia in the search box.

I also had a bad experience with one Choice hotel, but the others I stayed
at in the USA four years ago were quite reasonable. When I complained to
Choice hotels I didn't get an answer. Adverse publicity doesn't do their
brand any good, as a franchisor they should take some responsibility for the
standards their franchisees achieve, or sever the connection.
A few rotten apples in the group give it a bad name, which is unfair to the
other operators trading under that name.

There was also mention in this group a few months back about a "Hojo" in New
York City which had extremely poor reviews, so Choice Hotels appears not to
be alone in this area, and both groups should lift their game and kick out
underperforming members

Thanks very much for your advice. I have been posting on this wherever I
can. I just wrote to the guidebooks and criticized them for their favorable
reviews. Looks to me like there likely has been a change in ownership or
management and a subsequent dramatic deterioration.

Yes, I got the same experience in Ottawa.
Note also that there are 2 catalogs for Choice Hotels, the Rodeway Inn
and Econo Lodge are their cheap brand.
Some supposedly have a "100% satisfaction guarantee", which is mostly
marketing bull****.

What I did was complain to Visa about the charge, so they issued a
charge back. Technically they open an inquiry and could later charge me
if the hotel proves they are owed money, but I got my money back and
never heard from them again. I guess they figured if they fight back at
this step, I will take the next one and go to small claims court.
