View Full Version : Washington State

Using the advise from this newsgroup, I've decided to spend my extra
time
around Seattle in Washington State rather than going up to
Vancouver/Victoria. I'll be there at the end of June.

I've been doing a lot of reading and have come to realize that I
probably
won't have time to do everything I'd like to do. The previous week
I'll be
in Seattle for a conference and will spend my lunch breaks & evenings
seeing
things in Seattle, so the next week (either Sunday-Thursday or
Sunday-Sunday) would be entirely out of the city.

The places on my list of possible places to go include:

Mt Ranier
Mt St Helens
Cascades (Rt 20)
Olympic NP
Portland (Oregon) & surroundings

I don't want to spend the week driving from place to place. I don't
mind
driving, but I'd also like time admiring the scenery, doing some day
hikes,
and relaxing (this is a week of vacation, after all!). How much time
should
I spend at the above places (and any other places I may have missed)
so as
not to become bored being there too long but also not to feel as if
I'm
rushing? From what I've read, I'd probably want to spend more time at
Mt
Ranier than Mt St Helens, and it looks like I could probably spend the
whole
week in Olympic NP!

Any ideas of good locations to stay? While I'd prefer not to move
motels
every night, if it helps me to see more, I'd do it.

Thanks!
