Hostels around Auckland for Christmas/New Year

My girlfriend and I are looking for a double room in a hostel in
Auckland for New Year. Can anyone suggest a good place that will have
some atmosphere around ths time (but is still respectable enough to be
clean and enable us to get a good night's sleep on nights other than
the 31st December)?

A Kiwi tolds us that Coromandel would be a good place to spend
Christmas. Can anyone suggest a good area and hostel to stay in for
the festive season?

In Auckland, we stayed at the Rocknasium, but I wouldn't recommend it for a
QUIET or good night sleep. Only if you want a cheap place to stay. It was
pretty loud when we were there, and there was a place across the street
doing Korean Karaoke until I don't know when.

However, in Coromandel Peninsula, we stayed at Brian Boru Backpacker's
Hostel in Thames. It was a nice little place, almost a hotel, actually.
There IS a hotel down the street by almost the same name, so beware. This
one is owned by Barbara Doyle, a lovely lady, who will sit down and chat
with you over tea, if you are so inclined. Other than that, we camped while
we were on the Peninsula. If you have a chance to do the Pinnacles Hut
climb, it's great! That would be a fun place to spend a night, if it's not
to crowded.
