If you bought the ticket from UAL directly (as from
www.unitedairlines.com) then you can ask them for a refund voucher
good for a year and fully transferable. It's like a MCO -- you can use
it to buy another ticket, any fare class, for anybody. This, I am
reliably informed, is UAL policy.
