More space between seats

[arfam4]

I recently traveled by Southwest Airlines. This is my first travel by
this airline. It seemed to me there is slightly more space between
seats than other airlines I have traveled. Is it my imagination?
People who flies more often can probably answer this. With thanks in

Yes, not more than other carriers, and less space if you were to compare
them with the 737s that AA flies.

Depends on which other carriers.

of the seat pitch on various airlines. Southwest is larger that
some, smaller than others.

Southwest has said on its own website that their average seating pitch is
about 33.6 inches. This is actually very generous by international
standards, especially since European low-cost carriers (LCC's) such as
EasyJet and Ryanair tend to squeeze you into 31" or less seating. (eek!)

No. Most Southwest rows have 34" between them. Most other airlines run 32-33"

I was just on a Southwest flight with my tape measure. I measured four
rows toward the rear of the aircraft, and from first hand measurements,
the pitch varied somewhat, but was 32 to 33 inches.

31" is pretty much the norm for International Scheduled Airlines flying
into the UK, including British Airways and United. EasyJet and Ryanair
will allow you 29". Some Charter Airlines give 28" or even less! See

Which plane was that? If I remember correctly, Southwest's pitch is 32"
in their 737-200s, 32"-33" in their 737-300s and, I think, 737-500s, and
33"-34" in their 737-700s. For comparison, United's 737s and A320s/319s
have 31" in coach, except for the Economy Plus rows (not available in
all 737s) which are 34"-35".

Wow!!! I had no idea when I was standing up in front of all those
people that they also had an airline...
Wait a minute.... If AA has an airline, and all the people at the
meetings are trying to dry out... does that mean the pilots are...
nah... .impossible... ????
