NL Folk Festival a big success this year
This past weekend the 36th Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival
was held in Bannerman Park in St. John's and it was a great success. Last year there was one cancelled session due to rain and there was a move inside the luckily available stadium, and there was a loss. But this year the weather was excellent all weekend and there were good crowds to hear the well-balanced mix of local performers and performers from away. (This year after last year's loss there was more focus on local performers but there were some from away including Qristina and Quinn Bachand, Raw Bar Collective, James Keelaghan and Vishten.) The festival web site is http://www.nlfolkfestival.com and if you want to start planning for next year, it will be held on the Friday to Sunday following the first Wednesday in August (the Regatta is on that Wednesday and the George Street Festival is before that Wednesday). If you are a performer (including any on uk.music.folk in the UK) and want to play in next year's festival I think you have until the end of 2012 to apply and details should be posted on the above web site and/or http://www.nlfolk.com in a while. -- David Dalton http://www.nfld.com/~dalton (home page) http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/nf.html Newfoundland&Labrador Travel & Music http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/dtales.html Salmon on the Thorns (mystic page) "Here I go again...back into the flame" (Sarah McLachlan) |
