Otherwise I believe a name change of name is due -- HITLER I. I am seeking an informal poll to see if my opinion is reflected elsewhere on earth. |

I am seeking an informal poll to see if my opinion is reflected elsewhere on earth. You could start by going to more appropriate newsgroups to test out your wacko theory. Don't think the Pope or Hitler have much to do with New Zealand culture, let alone European TRAVEL or Hungarian society. Perhaps you could try out the interplanetary net to see if your opinion is reflected beyond this planet Regards David Bennetts |

Ratzinger is educated, intelligent, most likely not deluded and has some sense of humour. He's also a hardline reactionary. And Bavarian. Hitler wasn't any of those. inge (feeding trolls. sorry. How do you set a follow up in Outlook Express?) |

Hitler started his political growth in Bavaria. That said, Ratzinger was drafted into the German Army during World War 2 and defected, so I think that the connection is inappropriate. Ratzinger's priesthood postdates the horrible job the Catholic Church did handling the holocaust. I have no reason to like Ratzinger, but I think the original implication was inappropriate (Hitler I). Julie -- Julie ********** I could be wrong. My experience is limited to my experience. Some compare him to JP2 who was in the underground. But Ratzinger was very young at the time. There were few heroes among German Catholics. Or German Christians in general. Christianity has been aligned with fascism in many countries - try Central and South America. And it quite escapes me why Marxism is a greater evil than fascism. I think that Ratzinger was not a hero. Likewise he was not a villan in a time and place wher it was very easy to be one, especially when one was young. -- Julie ********** I could be wrong. He went AWOL in April 1945, 3 years after he joined, so it was hardly some deep seated idealogical view against shooting at allied bombers etc. It was simply that his side had lost and the war was going to be over in a few weeks - lots of people were deserting!
