Visa issue timescale from UK for Australia?

Hi,

I will be travelling around the world, in 1-2 months, and expect to tour
Australia for 4-6 months- with no employment work whilst in Australia etc.
I am 36 y/o, UK passport holder, and would like to know if anyone has any
idea of approx how long the Migration Branch Australian High Commission
LONDON takes to process the Tourist (Long Stay) visa, subclass 686 - for a
total stay of more than three months (I will stay 4-6months) when filling
out Form 48.

I dont really want to have to use an ETA and be limited to 3 months to exit
and then re-enter the country, or have to try to extend the ETA - in case
the original ETA could carry the "'No further stay' - 8503 condition".

Also, if known, is the "8503" condition often stated on ETA visas?

Many thanks for any help.

With the ETA u can extend it while your there i met 2 girls who did that for
extra 3 months on top of a ETA u have to do it before you got less then 3
weeks left on the ETA. I would loook into that.

ETA's are all but immediate. Long stay visas - I have no idea. Extending an
ETA (so 6 months) is normally no hassle either!?
