Good scenic areas in N. Arizona?

We are going to be staying at Grand Canyon S. Rim for three days. So
will get lots of pics of the Canyon area, but what are some more
picturesque spots that might be within an hours drive, or not too far
off from the highway running from Phoenix to the South Rim?

Amsel Adams was once asked where to take the best photos; he
replied, "Anywhere in Arizona".

Don't take the freeway to Peonix, take route 89A through Oak
Creek Canyon, Sedona Jerome and Prescott.

If you go through Flagstaff (which is the fastest route), you might
want to visit Meteor Crater, an enormous crater which is about 30
miles from Flagstaff. It's a popular tourist attraction, quite
dramatic, and also educational.

Amen! Also, someone else mentioned Berringer Meteor Crater.
There are beautiful volcanic craters, cliff-dwelling ruins,
etc. etc. between Flagstaff and the crater. Plenty to occupy
you for a full day or more. Check the National Park Service
website for information on all their properties in the area.

Check out Sunset Crater, Tuzigoot and Montezuma's castle. The later
two are ruins from the Sinagua people.

Someone already mentioned Jerome, and I second that. It's an old mining
town, well worth a morning or an afternoon, and the drive to of from
Prescott is memorable.
