Fired by whom? In what scenario would someone in Iran shoot down a
civilian plane from a third country that had just taken off from the
Teheran airport? It's far more likely to have been a bird strike or
maintenance issue.

Umm, any of 250 SAM itchy finger ground crews stationed in a circle
around Tehran who bumped against the "fire" button?

Then again, there was TWA 800 just a few weeks after 9/11 which
exploded and crashed just after takeoff from JFK.
