Several years ago I used Ace car rentals in New Zealand and found them fine.
About half the cost of the major international firms. Many of these local
car rental companies in NZ import good condition low mileage second hand
cars from Japan, and rent them out. So you won't get a brand new car.
Expect a four - five year old car in good order.
