just did a check on kayak.com for airfare and airfare to Rome is $1200

Last year, Med cruising was appealing to US travelers because the
dollar sucked and cruises were priced in dollars. This year, the
dollar still sucks, cruises are still priced in dollars and oil is
priced in dollars. The only problem is the first drives the other
two.

I don't understand your logic. I think it's the cost of airfare
to Europe (due mainly to the price of oil), as the other Bill
stated.

The cruise lines have to pay thier crews in euros, as well as their
taxes and fees. And the cost of fuel is just going to do nothing but
go up. $9 a day? Sure, soon to be $12, then $15, then $18. Where
does it end?

Have you looked at cruise fares in the Med for this year vs 2007?

The airlines tried a fare hike over the weekend that didn't stick.
Then American put out another surcharge, that appears to be staying.
