RCCL implementing fees for Johnny Rockets
Mel,
Since you live in the same area as me I'm sure you've noticed that kids in these minimum wage jobs aren't very motivated. That service happens at a lot of places in this area. Never eaten at the Franklin Mills store and on Explorer I had chili dogs so can't comment on the burgers. Bill "PARNAMI" wrote in message ... I was shocked to find that there is a JR's in our neck of the woods- Franklin Mills Mall! I've tried to eat there on three separate occasions. Succeeded once! The other two times I walked out after being ignored for 15 minutes....and no, I wasn't dressed in rags or looking grumpy..it's just typical of the service provided. The hamburger I ordered that time I was sucessful....was absolutely horrible! A trail of grease ran down both my arms...no exaggeration. Without question that was the worst burger I've eaten in my life! BUT, the burgers served at JR's on RCI are quite good, the complete opposiite of those for which I paid here in philly. It's a shame It's now doubtful I'll ever have another since I refuse to pay for food on a ship! Oh well! The JR's on RCI also indicate that they serve Nathan's hot dogs. Those ARE NOT NATHAN'S!! Food is not a major part of my vacation but I do have to depend on it for
survival. If some of the other lines had exciting activities like ice skating and such that could keep the teenager happy, I would be glad to "jump ship". But RCI seems to have the best scenario to keep the whole family happy. "Lee" wrote in message om... (DaFlaBear) wrote in message ... Between the marginal quality of the dining room food and the extreme hassle (as a Platinum member soon to be Diamond this really ticks me off) Why would you cruise so often on a line that consistently disappoints in what I would consider to be a very major aspect of cruising...the food? Maybe you have a rotten Applebee (forgive the pun). The one near here is
not gourmet but it's not as bad as some of the food on the Mariner of the Seas. By the way, of all the RCCL ships we have been on, Explorer had the best food and Mariner had the worst. Thank goodness for an occasional Johnny Rockets while on board. Which brings us back to the origin of this thread. The $3.95 surcharge for a hamburger meal is unfair. "Paul" wrote in message ... If you TRULY feel this way, then why are you on RCCL at all? Surely, not for the burgers at JR's? Hee-hee! My meals (never mind the wonders at Portofino's!!!) on Explorer of the Seas last May were absolutely fantastic. Our friends who thought only Princess lines had great food have switched to RCCL for good since their experience on Navigator six months ago. If Applebees even remotely approached the GREAT food quality we experienced on the Explorer (or any of the RCCL ships we've been on) I'd be eating there all the time! Applebees is just plain awful- too bad. -- Cheers, Paul Latin phrase to live by: "Illegitimis nil carborundum" "MZT" wrote in message ... I don't know if you have been aboard a Voyager class RCCL ship lately, but the steak served in the dining room as the "alternate choice" is not fit for human consumption. Overall, I could not say that the food on this class of ship (and I have been on four of the five) is "really GOOD to exquisite". The Chops Grille serves the only dinners that can be considered anything but institutional. The rest is not all horrible, but not much better than Applebee's. "Paul" wrote in message ... Sad to say, yes- those with less refined tastes are getting aboard as well. On the other hand, they get a chance to eat really GOOD to exquisite food on a cruise- they ought to take a break from their McDonald's (whoops- JR's) for just a week. Not only would it be an education for their taste buds, it would be tremendously better for their overall health. (Well, at least in-as-much as a week of 'good-eatin' could!) Most fast food chains should probably carry a warning label on the door! It could have been far worse- RCCL could have installed Applebee's on their ships! Now there's a disaster. (Only restaurant that I've ever been in that made a porterhouse steak taste absolutely awful! According to most food-physics books, this is impossible- but not at Applebees. "eatin' good in the neighborhood" indeed. blech.) My wife and I will never darken their door again. -- Cheers, Paul Latin phrase to live by: "Illegitimis nil carborundum" "M PELUSO" wrote in message ... With the growth of the industry's capacity the cabins have to be filled. With the amount of fine dining aficionados being a finite number, more and more of the "McDonald's RULES" crowd will be on the ships, and the lines have to cater to demand. Period. It's not real good on the cruise ships either- frankly I'm astonished that there's people here stating that the food is better at JR's then in the main dining rooms or the Windjammer! I guess we're talking the McDonald's RULES crowd? __________________________________________________ ________ PIEDMONT CRUISES Mike Peluso - Cruise Vacation Specialist 800-707-4008 919-303-3333 |

Maybe "Nathan's" has an inferior hot dog. RCI does serve "Seattle's Best"
coffee. I've seen them empty the bag of ground coffee into the coffeemaker (on Radiance of the Seas GGC2004). I checked the bag and it was labelled "Caribe Blend". It was far worse than any Seattle's Best coffee I've drunk in their land based coffee outlets. A few years ago in Seattle, while waiting to board the high speed ferry to
Victoria we had a lunch at a touristy/yuppy type restaurant on the waterfront. They served a local coffee blend that I think was named after a local Indian Tribe. Don't remember that name but it was about the best cup of brewed coffee I have ever had, anywhere, any time. The poached salmon was pretty good also. The exact reason they say they are testing the charge is because they
want to dampen demand. It appears the test will be a success after reading r.t.cruises. But you know that's not true! These are not tests, they are new charges pretending to be tests. I heard they were coming months ago..and also that they are NOT going to stop at $3.95! Cruising is like being awake, and dreaming! Visit my cruise page: http://parnami.tripod.com/ |

I will gladly pay the small surcharge if the food is decent. Last week we were docked next to the Navigator in San Juan and very few people were eating at JR's. I like it for an alternative for grabbing something quick in the evening. Gordon |

Gordon Why would you opt to pay a surcharge when currently you get it for free? That seems about as anti-consumer as you can get! David |
