Sandwich Shop in Florence
I remember from a previous trip that there is a wonderful little shop (just
a walk-up counter) in Florence's Mercato Centrale that sells sandwiches made from huge chunks of meat that are on display. The cook slices of slabs of meat, places them on thick bread, adds a sauce if you wish, and you eat it standing up. I think the place is on the first floor of the market (that would be logical, since that is where meats are generally sold), but no matter how hard I try I canno remember the name of it. Can anybody help? I am going back to Florence next month, and I would really love to be able to find this place again. Ron |

Ron I don't remember seeing that in my trips to the Mercato this summer but there are many shops that serve sandwiches and you should be able to spot it by walking around -- but there is another great sandwich shop I will add to your list Antico Noe located a couple of blocks up the street from Vivoli under a little arch in a piazza. Wonderful roast pork sandwiches - and all sorts of combinations of chicken, pork, vegetables, sauces, cheeses etc -- they have a list of combinations or you can make up your own. They will also sell half a sandwich which is about my speed. I loved the hot roast pork on crunchy bread without anything else -- There is a cafe by the same name next door -- but you can get sandwiches at the counter. |

Sandwich Shop in Florence
Dear Ron
I believe the sandwich shop you are remembering is Nerbone, in the Mercato Centrale. The same folks run Vecchio Bettola, a trattoria in the Oltrarno at Piazza Tasso, that has very tasty food. Have fun, Debbie Ron Audet wrote: I remember from a previous trip that there is a wonderful little shop (just a walk-up counter) in Florence's Mercato Centrale that sells sandwiches made from huge chunks of meat that are on display.
