Machu Pichu in March
Can anyone recommend a tour company to hike the inca trail? Is it
necessary to have waterproof shoes and pants? When it does rain along the trail does it pour or drizzle? How cold does it get at night? Below 0 celcius? Shawn |

Can anyone recommend a tour company to hike the inca trail?
If you wanted to wait, you can easily find trekking companies in Cusco. There is a whole street filled with them. I can see how you may want to get organized before, but it is not necessary. I was at the ruins last year, about this time. Weather was good on top, some rain in valley. A waterproof jacket would be good. The pants, maybe. Waterproof boots - well I don't care about weet feet, so does't matter to me. More trouble than its worth to concern yourself with waterproof boots. The more waterproof your boots, if they do get wet, they take longer to dry out. I don't think it get's below 0 C, not where you will be. Check out some of the websites for trekking the trail. They will answer your questions. I see your post is mtn time, so assume you live near mtns. Prepare for Machu Picchu trek as you would for hiking in mtns. |

Machu Pichu in March
I went to Peru in November with GAP Adventures (www.gapadventures.com),
taking their 'Taste of Peru' tour. Although I opted not to hike the Inca Trail (preferring to spend more time visiting Cuzco, Pisaq and Ollantaytambo instead).. several people in our group did the 3-day hike and they really enjoyed it. They said that the tents and gear were provided and that porters carried most of the gear. We met them at Machu Pichu, by the Sun gate, as they were finishing up their hike. Half the group was wearing the light-weight nylon pants (like for hiking/rafting), light-weight rain-resistant/proof jackets... I think they were also told to take a light-weight rain poncho too... If you get to Machu Pichu early in the morning, you'll have a lot less tourists to deal with. I stayed in Aguas Calientes the night before and so it was just a short bus ride the next morning to the site. But around noon, the site became noticeably crowded as more people started coming in to do the '1 day tour to Machu Pichu from Cuzco' thing. Some of my Peru photos are he http://www.cavesource.com/travels/peru/ Robin "swg" wrote in message ... Can anyone recommend a tour company to hike the inca trail?
