Default Must See and Do in OZ

That sounds like a "driving holiday". Sounds great to me.

I'd go up the middle and not up the coast.

Which way?

NNW (approx.) to Echuca along the "Murray Valley Highway" through Kerang,
Swan Hill to Tooleybuc then across the border to Balranald.

From there across the Hay plains to Hay then onto Goolgowi and onto the
"Kidman Way" via Hillston, Mount Hope and Cobar to Bourke.

From Bourke north you cross the Queensland border near Barringun then onto
Cunnamulla, Wyandra, Charleville, Augathella, Tambo, Blackall, Barcaldine.

By this you might be sick driving along the edge of the "outback" and the
desert so turn East to Emerald via Jericho (on the Jordan), Alpha,
Bogantungan and Anakie. Between Jericho and Alpha you cross the Great
Dividing Range to the eastern side.

Head North again through Clermont and Belyando Crossing to Charters
Towers.

Northward again through Greenvale, Oasis Roadhouse, The Lynd, The Forty
Mile Scrub, Mount Garnet to Ravenshoe (the highest town in Queensland and
some relief from the heat).

Head north again through Atherton and Mareeba then onto Kuranda and
Cairns.

I haven't worked out the total distance but it is shorter than along the
coast, believe it or not.

There are no unsealed roads on this route other than possible road works.
There are regular towns and/or fuel stops. There is accommodation along
the route but the bigger the town the more likely you are to get better
accommodation.

Lucky buggers!

Enjoy!

Ross

You are insane, joking, or a troll. Go inland?

Yeah yeah Cobar is great, but miss Sydney? None of the towns you mention is
worth a pinch of cocky **** compared to Sydney, Byron Bay, Noosa, Airlie
Beach ... not too mention 3,000 kms of the most magnificent coastal scenery
in the world.

Of course, the fact that your proposed trip is almost entirely single
carriageway and technically 100 kph would only add to the driving pleasure.

Yes, you must see Sydney and the surrounds. Canberra is worth going to
as well. We booked hotels a night or two before getting to a place
using the web site:

No need to be abusive or insulting.

I'm not your wife.
