rude Alaska service
On October 18th 2003, I was taking an Alaska plane number 444 from
(Washington) Seattle to (California) Ontario airport to visit my daughter, and I received the most unbelievably mistreatment on this plane. Before the plane takes off, I have hand carried 2 items, one bag with gifts and souvenirs, and another small lady's bag (see attached picture) with personal items like my medications, ID, important documents, eye solutions, which I need to access easily. A flight attendant (She is the only one wearing black pants on the plane) asked me to put my items up the storage area above my seat, I put my souvenir bag up, and ask her if it is alright to place my lady's bag underneath my seat. She said no you HAVE to put "everything" up the cabinet, I understand this is a safety standard, but my bag can be placed securely underneath passenger seat. At that time I wasn't the only passenger holding a purse, there are passengers with teddy bear, purse putting besides them on the seat. I suggested to her that I have medications and I don't see why I cannot put a small purse like that underneath my seat, it fits perfectly. But she became very rude and started arguing with me. She said I don't care about other passengers but you have to put that purse up, and she said our plane don't welcome you, get out of my plane, and she pushed me off my seat and to the plane door. I was scared and insulted in front of all other passengers, and at that point I bow my head and reply, "whatever you said", and she smiled with great satisfaction and with challenging voice saying, "are you sure? You better think about it before you get back there" My tears were running and don't know why I have to be treated this way. After the plane takes off, the buckled up light were off, and I need my medication, so I stood up to grab my purse down, this flight attendant ran out and said "ah ha, I have been watching you, I know you will do that, put the purse back up there". I look around the safety light is off and other passengers are holding their personal items, why is she nailing at me, I felt discriminated and helpless. My whole trip on the plane was miserable. I have traveled many times and that was the most humiliated mistreatment I have ever had. It is her attitude and the tone of her condescending insult that make it so unacceptable, I am a paid customer and I can choose any airline for my trip, why am I being treated rudely? I am retired and am visiting Los Angeles to spend; flight attendant is a public service career, how can such a manner be acceptable on the plane. Luckily I wasn't the only one who feel that way on the plane, a business class seat lady heard and saw the whole incident, without me knowing, she talked to the pilot, lead flight attendant (Venessa) that how can a paid passenger be treated that way, and she will definitely don't want to see her mom traveled with Alaska again. Anybody has similar experience, what should I do next? Regards, |

Put this in a letter to the president of Alaska Air. Use your flight
number, not the plane number. "Angelina Cheng" wrote in message om... I don't quite understand what you are saying. Someone on the plane indicated they wouldn't have their mother fly AS again, but didn't say anything about themselves? If the facts are as you have stated, then this would be a rude attendent and you should make a complaint to the airline. However, there are rude people on all airlines, so that one incident alone would not be enough unless the airline gave me a nasty response to the complaint. After all, I doubt there are many airlines that fly nonstop from SEA to ONT. |

Honey, nudity is nothing to complain about. Under our clothes, we are all nude. It is natural. We are born that way. Perhaps you were jealous because the FAs had nicer bodies than your own, but that is not a reason to get mad at the airline. Learn to accept that others may have nicer bodies. And just because they have a nice body doesn't mean that they are going to be nasty to you or that you should be nasty to them. Also, don't judge a book by its cover. The FA may be nude when she served your drink, but what really counts is whether she smiled, was nice to you etc etc. |

FA forcing pax to put all carry on in the overhead bin.
This is standard practice when you are in a bulkhead seat (with a wall in front of you) or the first row after an overwing exit. The deal is that your hand luggage must be put under the seat IN FRONT OF YOU. Not under your own seat. If you put it under your own seat, the luggage is not restrained. If you put it under the seat in front of you, there is a bar that restrains the luggage in case the plane brakes abruptly. So on a flight, if you get such a seat without a seat in front of you, then yes, it is normal for the FA to "single you out" and force you to put everything in the overhead bin. However, the FA could have told you that once in the air, you could bring down your purse, but you'd have to stowe it again for landing. If you did have a seat in front of you, then the FA didn't have any business telling you you couldn't stowe your purse there. If you make a complaint to the airline, you should provide the seat number you were assigned. That will determine whether you had the possibility of stowing luggage under a seat or not. |

On October 18th 2003, I was taking an Alaska plane number 444 from
(Washington) Seattle to (California) Ontario airport to visit my daughter, and I received the most unbelievably mistreatment on this plane. snip Having flown Alaska very many time I can state that I have never had any problem with their FAs. Who, more often than not, seem to be some of the more friendly ones. However, I have seen my share of passengers who believed that directions from anyone on the flight crew could be regarded only as a suggestion. There may be more to the circumstances of which we are unaware, or it may be that the FA did not do a good job in explaining her actions. When in doubt, follow the directions of the flight crew and rearrange yourself and your articles later (after the seatbelt light has been turned off, however due to unexpected turbulance ...). |

You're not supposed to put anything under YOUR seat. That is space for the person behind you. Were you in a bulkhead? If so, everything goes up above for take off and landing, otherwise, your purse should go under the seat in front of you. I have traveled many times By plane? Luckily I wasn't the only one who feel that way on the plane, a business class seat lady heard Alaska doesn't have Business Class. and saw the whole incident, without me knowing, she talked to the pilot, How did she get into the cockpit? |
