Default RCCL implementing fees for Johnny Rockets

Today's Corporate Environment is:

Unrealistic Expectations from Wall Street +
Huge cost of new ships =
squeezing every penny you can from every area you can get away with.

Alcohol, I can kind of understand (however, the prices seem REALLY
exaggerated) I am leery of my cruise because of it. I'm gonna look like and idiot when I
ask "How much is this?" Before I say yes.

We all go on cruises to enjoy ourselves. when I Cruise I tend to take
that time to be off my diet (Atkins), that being said, it's a huge
treat for me to have JR's chili cheese fries. When we did Voyager, I
think i went there three or four times.

Ultimately JR ties into one of the primary functions of the new Mega
Ships.. More space = more options.

Actually, the same article mentions that Crown and Anchor Society members of
all levels (i.e., you've cruised on RCCL at least once before) will get
coupons for one free meal at Johnny Rockets. In my opinion, once is enough
at any Johnny Rockets during a one-week cruise! It's good food, but are you
really on a cruise to eat at a glorified McDonalds every day (for heaven's
sakes!)?

Cheers,
Paul

I just read on www.Cruise Critic.com that Royal Caribbean will now be
charging a $3.95 fee for eating at Johnny Rockets. The fee will also be

for
take out orders. The fee started with the Mariner of the Sea this week and
will start March 13 on the Navigator of the Sea.
Of course the reason for the charge is the same one they use all the time,
"to manage demand for the restaurant".

Sorry if this was already posted.

Bill

I emailed Crown and Anchor last night about it and told them how greedy it
was for them to charge for Johnny Rockets. I told them if they really need
money that bad they should have a fee for pool use. They emailed me back
and said it was a test on four Cruises. Mariner and Navigator for the next
two cruises each. All I can say is I hope everyone boycotts Johnny Rockets.
We just came back from Explore of the Seas in January and had a snack almost
every day at Johnny Rockets. We had such good service we tipped the two
waiters who took care of us all week. It's not the money they are charging,
it's the principle that upsets me. Next they'll be charging to see the ice
shows since there is such high demand to see them.

You don't get it. Not everyone will boycott it but they actually want
you to. When they say they want to manage demand it means that they
want to give away less free food. If 80% of the people that went to
JR boycotted it and the other 20% paid their $3.95 the line would come
out way ahead.

I've already emailed Royal Caribbean to voice my displeasure. Maybe
if more people do this, they'll get the message.

They tried this before and abandoned it when the passengers abandoned

Johnny
Rockets. I like Johnny Rockets but not enough to stand in line for more
than a few minutes and certainly not enough to pay for it.

This is one policy that will truly be reviewed by the passenger's

response.
My advice... eat in the Windjammer or the dining room. If enough people

do
that, Royal Caribbean will get the message once again.

Hi David,

The above shows you can't believe everything you read on cruise
critic. RCCL has a very heavy debt load. They are not owned by the
same parent company.

Thanks Ray. At least I prefaced it with a nice version of "I'm

The article I read on the Cruise Critic web site says nothing about it
going to the staff. Their spokeswoman says it is about managing the
demand.

It's still a greasy spoon.

It is not a greasy spoon. It is a sanitized, faux version of a 50's
burger joint. I would not spend a penny for food there on a cruise
ship. I would pay for the Malts.

It's not that faux, it's a fairly true re-creation. I tried the malts on
the Explorer, wasn't the same as the Johnny Rockets I've tried in New
Jersey.

You can get a bowl of chili. The order of fries is $2.95 I believe.

Johnny Rockets is a premium well known branded item and I would not
expect to get it for free.

You say it is premium and the other guy, DaFlaBear says it is a greasy
spoon. I don't think it is a greasy spoon, but I don't think it is
premium either. It is just burgers and malteds in a fake 50's decor.

There's also the nickle jukeboxes with music from the 50s. What's a bit
out of place is the dancing to Aretha Franklin's Respect, I think that
song came out in the 1960s.

I took my father and my mother-in-law to Johnny Rockets and they thought
it felt close to a 1950s diner. Of course, JR is using computerized cash
registers and credit cards now, and the times are different, but they do
a decent job of creating a 50s atmosphere. I like that the malteds are
really malteds with malt powder and not just shakes called malteds. But,
I've had better ones in old delis in Brooklyn (that may not be open
anymore).

It
is not worth the extra charge.

I can see both sides of the debate. I'm leaning with Babette though, I'm
not outraged by the charge. The fares are cheap for balconies and the
new ships just keep coming out with more features than the older ones,
and a few are for a charge.

I doubt you'll find anything close to a cruise in terms of value even
with the nickle and diming.

Am I the only one who really really really wants a cheeseburger
fries and a shake right now? This thread has made me hungry for some
good junk food.
