Aeroflot ? MUC-SVO-BKK
Hi !
I have booked a flight for me and my girl friend in march to Bangkok. The cheapest offer was Munich-Moskow-Bangkok by Aeroflot Russian Airlines! Aircraft from MUC to SVO will be A319 and from SVO to BKK an IL 96 (whatever it is !?!). May anyone give me some information about aeroflot on this route ? How about security, service and tranfser in Moskow ? Thank you for your help ! Marco Munich, Germany |

SVO is a bit dank but bearable unless you have a lay-over of more than a
couple of hours. The 96 has more legroom than most "western:" aircraft the way Aeroflot sets them up. "Marco@munich" wrote in message om... Hi ! Marco Munich, Germany I flew with Aeroflot from LHR - SVO - BKK Though the flight will get you there in one piece, be prepared for shabby plane interior and no inflight entertainment from SVO - BKK. The transfer at the airport is likely to be traumatic too. The Russian immigration officials aren't the friendliest of people and expect the return flights to be cancelled and moved at the last minute (this is all from personal experience) The Illushin (sp?) aircraft they use are old and dated and need to be replaced soon. If you can afford a little extra, my advice would be to use a different airline as the chances are you're probably only saving a few Euros over the next cheapest flight. Hope that helps Oz |

The Il-96 is hardly old and outdated, that type of bird flew first time in 1988, the 96M in 1993. No accident yet, the predecessor IL-86 had one loss in 25 years. Aeroflot has worked on itself, on their people and the fleet, they are still buying new IL96 - they have updated the design and were planning to use P&W engines, but that deal was busted from US side.. I have seen the IL86 in Eriwan-Zvartnorts - itīs the most impressing, nicest airliner I have ever seen. Hope that helps Oz Gruss, Roman |

Sjoerd That's what I thought. I was only in transit last time I flew with Aeroflot and saw Russian immigration officers (they're the same dudes that sit in the official immigration desks - military dress and everything) 3 (yes 3!) times. My original comments still stand. Despite the efforts of high level managment to change the image of Aeroflot, I still beleive (from personal experience) that they have a VERY long way to go before they can compare themselves to the likes of other airlines. You're speaking from an aircraft enthusiasts point of view. Take that hat off for a moment and look at it from a regular air traveller's opinion. If you travel on a long distance flight like from SVO - BKK, it doesn't matter how cavernous the interior is - the view you get is poor interior (carpets frayed and not glued down) and no in flight entertainment (not even a little radio to listen to!) - Take a book is my advice - it's the only thing that kept me sane! Just to prove I don't have a complete downer on Aeroflot...The plus points of Aeroflot a Tonnes of leg room, and tonnes of cabin storage, and don't forget the free "bar" in the back of the aircraft. Aeroflot has worked on itself, on their people and the fleet, they are still buying new IL96 - they have updated the design and were planning to use P&W engines, but that deal was busted from US side.. They still have a VERY long way to go. That is from personal experience. If I was flying to BKK from LHR I would still chose another airline and pay the extra (usually Ģ45). I have seen the IL86 in Eriwan-Zvartnorts - itīs the most impressing, nicest airliner I have ever seen. Sorry, I can't comment on IL86 - I actually flew SVO - BKK on an IL96. I don't think they use the IL86 on this route. Gruss, Roman Oz |

and the 3 is - first - coming "in" (even if in transit, you see
immigration), the second - gettng back "into the airport" - even if (you didn't "leave" OR actually ENTER Russia), and third "to leave" (talk about bureaucracy) "OZ" wrote in message ... You were suggesting complete aircraft replacement simply because of a worn interior. That isn't really cost-effective. If the interior was to be replaced with a more recent design, as most airlines do every few years, I suspect you would have difficulty suggesting the aircraft was old and dated. Consider that until recently, DC-9s were flying about that were over 30 years old, and there were few complaints. The design of the Russian plane is barely 10 years old. It's also interesting how people seem to have lost the ability to entertain themselves. How on earth did people keep themselves amused when they traveled for many days on trains, or prior to the introduction of entertainment systems on aircraft? Personally, I don't usually use the entertainment system, since the movies are typically second-rate, and the music isn't often to my taste. I sleep or read. I do enjoy the route progress maps, however. |
