Not until after the 15 day repo thru the canal. Just what Paradise cruisers
have asked for. A different itenerary. The the Paradise starts doing 3 and 4
day cruises on the west coast.

I'm shocked (and disappointed). I thought this had been a huge success for
Carnival. What gives?

Diana
I think George L nailed it. They were not atracting large groups as
groups tend to have smokers as well as non smokers.

SUNNY........disappointed she wont get the oppotunity to sail on her

Other than a few press releases, most of what I was seeing with the
Paradise wasn't all that good. GeorgeL addressed the problem with
getting groups to sail on her, and I noticed that for almost any given
cruise week, she was among the cheapest to get on.

Those two things alone should be definite warning signs.

I'm surprised, too. It's unlike Carnival Corp to have a major failed
marketing endeavor like this is. And besides, I thought the concept
of a smoke-free ship was so, PC, so "today". I guess I was wrong.

Well, it was all of those things, but it appears maybe it wasn't the
one thing it needed to be - profitable!

I, for one am very disappointed~we enjoyed her when we cruised on her~would

The Paradise was the only Carnival ship I ever visited and dined on.
I didn't care for the decor, but the food and service was excellent.

Gee, I'm talking as though the ship just sank and burned! I'm sure
she'll do well once all those non-smokers get off ;-)

Karen

Its still a mixed old world out there, isn't it? It is certainly one
thing to go to a restaurant or whatever for an evening out and not
smoke, or go outside or whatever. But it is certainly a horse of a
different color when you have to quit for a week!

When George was puttting the Paradise together, I was looking to see if
I could hack a week without smoking. I figgered maybe the patch would
tide me over. Sigh.... Other things got in the way of me going on
that one.

But now I wouldn't have a problem. I quit cold turkey a bit over two
weeks ago! I got a real good incentive. While I was sitting in my
open front door portal, with temp around 33 or so, in my shorts and
t-shirt, sweating like a pig with my chest hurting really bad, I
thought that maybe it was time to give these damn things up! G

Since that little incident and the stent they stuck in me a couple
weeks ago, cigarettes haven't even been tempting, and THAT is a first
for me!

I believe they had the non-smoking ship as a sop to those who don't
like second hand smoke. They could point to Paradise as doing something
and keep the other ships as they were. That is why I never cared for
the idea to begin with. One non-smoking ship still meant most
non- smokers and the workers would be subjected to second hand smoke. I
don't think the smokers win as Brenda believes with her subject line.
More likely the smokers will lose. In the future smoking will be
further restricted until it will only be allowed on a few outside deck
areas, and possibly in staterooms.

Congratulations Lloyd. I know how difficult it is to stop smoking. I had
a 3 pack a day habit that I broke almost 16 years ago. I'm sure if I was
still smoking I wouldn't have survived my bout with double pneumonia
back in September/October.

I figure I saved enough money to pay for a couple of cruises. (just to
keep this on topic)

Joyce -- 365 days til my South America cruise on the Amsterdam (sounds
like less than 1 year)
