Default Goodbye Fine Lady - End Of A Splendid Cruise Ship

The news is official. The Old ESL Emerald Seas which was splashed in 1944 as
the General W.P. Richardson and ends as The Ocean Explorer 1 will finally be
put to rest at Alang. This is very sad news for me since she was my all time
favorite ship. Having sailed on The Ariadne followed by 25 cruises on Emerald
Seas over the years, I will deeply miss her. I have over a thousand snaps taken
on, in and around her from all our trips and she will forever be in our hearts.
Anyone else with a keen interest in her, feel free to share any stories or
snaps. There is a model with encapsulation of her on greedbay now with no bids
yet (we have the same one and would never sell it). No doubt alot of
collectibles will spring up since the allure will peak now with her passing
(there was a slot machine from her recently up for auction). She was the
largest of the ESL Fleet and she was a grand lady indeed. Saying farewell is a
real tear-jerker. This marks the end of an era in my opinion.

ever since. Any chance those photos of yours might be posted anywhere?

My sweetheart made her first cruise on the Emerald of the Seas. Her son was
working on it at that time. Later after I had met her, she convienced me to
go cruising, after I had spent 9 years sailing for Uncle Sam, and we went on
another Eastern Cruise Line ship, the Empress of the Seas which had been
bought out by RCI if I remember correctly. Have not looked back since! Her
son still is on RCI's Enchantment of the Seas.

Many memories later!!!

All of my photo albums are at our summer home and I will try to share some in
the future, but I did upload some that I took out of frames to scan and are
owned by my husband. One of them shows my late father in-law (far right in blue
blazer and mother in-law at the head of the table nearest the camera in a peach
outfit) at the Captains Table. My Husband's Dad was an Admiral and often sat at
the Captain's Table on the cruises his family took. These are vintage snaps
from the 1970's which I figured would be a fitting web site tribute to The
Grand Lady. I have limited space on my aol web pages, so I will rotate a few
pics over time (including newer ones with me and more deck and exterior
photos). My husband used to fill in for some of the drummers on this ship every
time his family sailed her and he was just a young teen in the early 1970's. He
sailed the Emerald Seas close to 50 times. I took 25 cruises over the years
before ESL folded.
