Default Hotels in Tampa

We are sailing on the Veendam on the 31st of January and did not book our
air as a package with Holland America, therefore no hotel. I need to drop
off my rental car at the airport on the night before the cruise and I
thought I could find a hotel nearby and catch a cab to the cruise terminal..

Any recommendations for hotels (I tried the Ramada they were full)

Thanks in Advance

We are staying in Tampa at the Amerisuites Busch Gardens for our prenight
cruise stay. There are other amerisuites in Tampa though that may be closer
to the cruise terminal....I got ours reserved via AAA for 63/night and
that's a pretty good deal for that type of hotel (2 room suite). You may
want to look at their website:
www.amerisuites.com and call them and ask.

Breakfast at Embassy Suites is much better than at Amerisuites, but
not $36 better!
We stayed at Amerisuites precruise in Ft Lauderdale and no complaints.
They also offered transportation from the airport and to the cruise
port. Very convenient and recommended.
If Tampa is anything close, you'll be happy.

A couple years ago I rented from Alamo and they shuttled to the dock. Why not
contact them directly and inquire if they still do this- then it would be easy
to keep the car until morning - drop off and be shuttled to the ship. Would
give you a much greater number of lodging choices.

Thanks for the replies. I found an old post Double Tree Westshore
providing a shuttle to the ship. I contacted them by phone and they will
provide a shuttle to the pier as long as it isn't in peak times ( 11:00 am
to 3 p.m. won't be a problem) . It is not a scheduled service and I would
negotiate the time with the front desk in the morning . Their AAA rate is
$116.

Try using Priceline. I got a $375 room at the Grand Hyatt for $55 with free
shuttle from the airport. The taxi to to HAL port the next day was $19.
While we had to pay for breakfast the next day, the experience of being
there was really worth it.
