Same on Mariner of the Seas. I saw a lot more action at the FREE ice cream
then I did at Ben and Jerry's.

Sad to say, yes- those with less refined tastes are getting aboard as well.

On the other hand, they get a chance to eat really GOOD to exquisite food on
a cruise- they ought to take a break from their McDonald's (whoops- JR's)
for just a week. Not only would it be an education for their taste buds, it
would be tremendously better for their overall health. (Well, at least
in-as-much as a week of 'good-eatin' could!) Most fast food chains should
probably carry a warning label on the door!

It could have been far worse- RCCL could have installed Applebee's on their
ships! Now there's a disaster. (Only restaurant that I've ever been in
that made a porterhouse steak taste absolutely awful! According to most
food-physics books, this is impossible- but not at Applebees. "eatin' good
in the neighborhood" indeed. blech.) My wife and I will never darken their
door again.

With the growth of the industry's capacity the cabins have to be
filled. With the amount of fine dining aficionados being a finite
number, more and more of the "McDonald's RULES" crowd will be on the
ships, and the lines have to cater to demand. Period.

It's not real good on the cruise ships either- frankly I'm astonished

that
there's people here stating that the food is better at JR's then in the

main
dining rooms or the Windjammer! I guess we're talking the McDonald's

RULES
crowd?

Doesn't the freestyle cruising get rather hectic and frenetic though- I
mean, how are theme nights organized (as in the waiters singing and marching
about) if everyone is arriving at dinner at all times? I actually have
mixed feelings about the freestyle dining- I find it more threatening than
the entry fee to JR's.

Freestyle dining seems like a much bigger departure to classic cruising then
fees at JR's.

Still, I've never tried it- but most of my cruise partners have given me
horror stories about NCL- so I guess I'd have to try Princess? They do
this, too, don't they?

Personally I think it is wonderful that the larger ships are offering more
options for people with different tastes. It is one reason I like NCL's
freestyle cruising. I like the fine dining, and I like what they do in

the
dining rooms with Vegetarian Cuisine. I am not crazy about doing a buffet
for dinner. But I am glad that I can take my kids along and they can

choose to
eat at Johnny Rockets.

There are two in Washington, DC. One at Union Station and another in
Georgetown. The other one I have seen was also on the right coast. In
South Beach in Florida on Ocean Drive!

They are all over the East Coast, in any major city. We have several in
Atlanta. The original Johnny Rockets was in Los Angeles, on Melrose Avenue.
I was living in LA at the time JR's was rather trendy, of course then it
became a chain and was no longer unique and special. Same with Cheesecake
Factory and California Pizza Kitchen. Two other LA startups that were
wonderful, then became homogenized chain restaurants.

Ernie - with fond memories of when there was only one CPK and CF, both in
Beverly Hills.

There are several in DC and Virginia, most notably in Union Station.

Again though- for those of you REALLY that concerned about missing out on a
second or third rate burger at a fast food joint on a Luxury cruise ship-
there's really only one answer. Boycott the JR's! (I'd be willing to bet
most won't... and shame on you!)

I will (easy for me, I'm a vegetarian)

Maybe RCCL will pull them out and install another Chops Grille-type of
restaurant!!! Now that would be wonderful! I'd like to see a Benihana
Japanese steak house-style restaurant!!! (the kind where you sit around the
grill and they cook your meal in front of you)

NCL has this, on the dawn anyway.

I'm one of those crying the blues and I could care less about the burger,

good
or bad! I'm upset about the charge, which, albeit paltry is yet another

trend
along the path to charges for virtually all on food served on board!
(Incidentally, the charge will NOT remain paltry for long! Once accepted,

it
will be increased significantly! Remember how they got people to accept
charges for Porto Finos? EIGHT DOLLARS! Now, it's TWENTY FIVE!

Already, there are rumors about upcoming charges for desserts served on

RCI.
They could be just rumors..but, rumor or not, THAT IS THE TREND and will

happen
unless and until passengers band together and make their feelings known!

Cruising is like being awake, and dreaming!

Waiters don't sing and march about on NCL that I have seen.

Well I've sailed NCL twice, and liked it, and would go again, never waited more
than 15 minutes for a table, anywhere.

I wuldn't consider an RCi Voyager class ship to be a luxury cruise
ship. See, that's the thing. If we were talking true luxury cruising,
there wouldn't be the added fee. We're talking mainstream mass market
cruise line. Cheap fare gets you room and board (there are free
(included) meals to be had), and little else.
