Tell that to Israel.

Jim, I do too. But you opened up a can of worms. An argument can be made
that the U.S. is violently imposing its ideals upon others who do not
think as it does (stating it is bringing "democracy" to the middle East,
for example). An argument can be made that this is what humankind has
done since time immemorial and is not unique to any society on this Earth.

Spokesmen for terrorism state that it's purpose to avenge the honor of
defeated countries, societies, customs, and religions and to get the
influence and presence of colonizers and crusaders out of their sacred
lands. That's their position.

I think most societies are guilty of brutality and the desire to conquer.


My position: we all have agendas and defend ourselves while not
considering everything that goes into the other side, or even to
validate that there may be something to the other side.

Having lived in Philly prior to moving to New Hampshire, I have fond memories
of dinners at the Sezchuan East restaurant in NE Philly (Red Lion & Veree

Wow! Bringing back OLD memories! I was born in Philadelphia, lived
in Port Richmond as a kid growing up in the 1940s, and moved to
Nicetown in the 50s. I can attest that Kensington was not an upper
class neighborhood even then, more like stable blue collar. Of
course, it seemed upper class to me as a kid, as we were very poor. I
left Philly in the 60s as soon as I got out of college and have never
been back. But relatives who are still in the area tell me that the
old neighborhood in Nicetown is now a jungle and you do not want to
venture there even in daytime. Kensington, however, is still stable
blue collar. Never heard the term "Badlands" but I can guess what it
means.

the philadelphia inquire had a large spread on it with pictures,a couple
of years ago,and has long been known as the BADLANDS,yes it seemed like
an upper class section,because we also were poor,am old enough to
remember the depression

Shows you how out of touch I am. I moved away from there in the 60s
and have lived out West ever since with no desire to ever go back. I
did a google on the Badlands and find it covers my old neighborhood
(Hunting Park) as well as Kensington. It was bad when I lived there
but not, apparently, as bad as it has been in recent years. When I
traveled through Belize on our shore tour, I was struck by how
conditions were similar to my growing up, particularly in the towns
and cities we went through, but I doubt that the crime rate is
anything like it is in good old Philly. I was born at the end of the
depression 1939 but my family was affected by it for years after.
Things got better towards the end of WWII. My Dad who had been a
waiter got a defense job and we were eventually able to get a house of
our own. Memories.

JIM: you were one of the lucky one's my dad walked out on my mom when
the depression hit leaving her with 7 kids to raise,she had a very hard
life,/i was fortunate enough to marry a man that always thought
ahead,although we are not considered rich,we live comfortably,moved to
new jersey in 1954,and hope never to go back to philly.we still consider
ourselves lucky enough to cruise now & then
