These code shares are getting pretty ridiculous. I'm flying US Air,
operated by Mesa Air DBA America West Express. Called US Air, they
couldn't tell me where I should go when I get to the airport. Sigh.

Why did you call them and not America West?

It's not a code share. It's an express flight. Just go check in at the US
counter and go to your gate...

Had their phone number handy, and figured US Air would at least know
which airline I should check in with.

Finally got someone seemingly knowledgable at US Air, told me to check
in at Mesa Air counter, which may or may not be the same as Amer West.
ugh

Normally if the flight is listed as operated by "America West Express",
then the real flight number is an America West one. I assume they bought
the ticket with a US Air flight number. It is a code share and the
actual flight number will be an America West one.

Because America West and US Air are the same airline? Or is this
a trick question?

Check in at the US Airways/America West ticket counter. They'll check you
in (or you can use their kiosk), and go to the assigned gate. It may be
operated by Mesa, but it is a US Airways flight for all intensive purposes.
