Default Carnival Miracle 7-17-04 Review 7 Days New York to Bahamas

One further comment on this class of ship: I recall that by my 3rd
Statendam-class ship, I was astonished at the completely identical
structure of these ships. The 3 Spirit-class ships I've now been on
have been so utterly identical as to make the HAL ships look varied by
comparison.

This is very interesting. For years I've been moaning about
cookie-cutter ships and how much I valued the Celebrity Century ships,
because they weren't cookie cutters and offered a similar layout with
different personalities through furnishings of major public areas. Most
responses I received earlier were that the furniture was bought in bulk
and that it was less costly for the cruise lines to maintain and furnish
the ships. There was also the point of people wanting to have
cookie-cutter ships, that they were familiar and easy for people to
navigate since once they were on one, the others were just another
version of the same. I thought to then give it up because most felt that
cookie cutter was OK and didn't share my annoyance with the cruise
sister ship's lack of creativity and imagination.

Now, it seems some of us are sick of the same ship, same concept, same
cruise experience. I don't think there's enough that it'll impact the
industry as yet. They are still attracting many newbies. However, the
point of customer indifference leading to disinterests may come to a
significant amount of the cruise pool of customers that the industry may
need to rethink and reimplement their product. The customer is getting
more familiar with product and getting less satisfied with the formula.

And this proves one thing. You must listen to me. I am the voice of the
future. I am before my time. I am avant-garde. I am exemplary. I am
strong. I am invincible. I am woman.

Dare I point out that there are those of us who have been avoiding the new
ships and searching out older smaller ones for many of these same reasons?
How many times have I heard that "bigger is better"? Certainly enough that I
(temporarily) stopped speaking my mind!

Now that I'm near the West Coast ports, I've been sorta watching for cruises
there... and I keep seeing ships that I have no interest in...

I thought that was Princess who did that. I swear, their ships are made

out of
the same cookie cutter.

From the sounds of it here, many of the mainstream lines seem to be

cutting
their ships out of the same mold, even Carnival with its different

"themes" for
each ship...which is a LITTLE better than Princess.

RCCL is all about the mantra of consistency of total program.

Same cookies on each ship. Same color scheme. Same green glass when you
look at the ships. Same cruise director "shtick". Same light color

"dirty"
carpeting. Same everything.

Even cabin decor.

You are so right, Tom. I hate that. Sailing the Serenade one year
after the Brilliance was like dating identical twin sisters.

On the same date? That might be interesting.

We even
had the same lousy weather on our crossings grin. I still can't
separate my experiences on both these ships from one another.
