They claim that they can't have steak knives because children could get hurt
(what an excuse)!!! But that "ranch steak" needs more than a steak knife. .
.. a chain saw perhaps :-)

I don't know if you have been aboard a Voyager class RCCL ship lately,

but
the steak served in the dining room as the "alternate choice" is not fit

for
human consumption. Overall, I could not say that the food on this class

of
ship (and I have been on four of the five) is "really GOOD to

exquisite".
The Chops Grille serves the only dinners that can be considered anything

but
institutional. The rest is not all horrible, but not much better than
Applebee's.

Sad to say, yes- those with less refined tastes are getting aboard as

well.

On the other hand, they get a chance to eat really GOOD to exquisite

food
on
a cruise- they ought to take a break from their McDonald's (whoops-

JR's)
for just a week. Not only would it be an education for their taste

buds,
it
would be tremendously better for their overall health. (Well, at

least
in-as-much as a week of 'good-eatin' could!) Most fast food chains

should
probably carry a warning label on the door!

It could have been far worse- RCCL could have installed Applebee's on

their
ships! Now there's a disaster. (Only restaurant that I've ever been

in
that made a porterhouse steak taste absolutely awful! According to

most
food-physics books, this is impossible- but not at Applebees. "eatin'

good
in the neighborhood" indeed. blech.) My wife and I will never darken

their
door again.

I know what you mean!! I had the "ranch steak" one night on the Mariner 3
wks ago. The thing still had the whip marks on it! g I asked our waiter
for
a steak knife, and she said that THIS was the steak knife....sheesh..

With the growth of the industry's capacity the cabins have to be
filled. With the amount of fine dining aficionados being a finite
number, more and more of the "McDonald's RULES" crowd will be on the
ships, and the lines have to cater to demand. Period.

It's not real good on the cruise ships either- frankly I'm

astonished
that
there's people here stating that the food is better at JR's then in

the
main
dining rooms or the Windjammer! I guess we're talking the

McDonald's
RULES
crowd?

in no
less). They claim to be a different experience in cruising. . .so why are
they following the other cruise lines?

Because Carnival's Mickey Arisson was poking fun at RCI's profit margins versus
his own, stating bluntly, that it indicated HE was the superior businessman!
Apparently Richard Fain took it to heart, thus signaling the start of the
nickel and dime era at RCI!

Sheree,

I just happened to read an article yesterday that compared some low
carb products with their sugar free counterparts.

It turns out that they both had about the same amount of carbs but the
sugar free versions were roughly 1/2 the price.

I'm with you though. I'd rather enjoy less of a good thing than more
of the phony stuff.

Hi Warren:
Perhaps you have reached the same conclusion that I have, that in almost all
things quality is much more important than quantity.

did it compare the calories in the sugar free and low carb products to the
real stuff? they seem to have more fat and calories to make up for the lack
of sugar etc and attempt to give it taste!!

most people on atkins, etc once they start to eat normal, the weight comes
back. it's all about moderation. I can see doing one of the diets short
term to jump start weight loss but not for the long haul

There are two in Washington, DC. One at Union Station and another in
Georgetown. The other one I have seen was also on the right coast. In
South Beach in Florida on Ocean Drive!

There's one near my office here in Greenwich Village, NYC, and one in Hoboken, NJ.

And, a bit further, one in Short Hills Mall and one in Jersey Gardens
Mall in Elizbeth.

camden is still a battleground unfortunately and just driving thru makes me
nervous.

I live near Trenton and overall Trenton has come back as well with our
arena, ball park, roebling complex etc but there's still a few areas
(getting smaller) that you really don't want to go thru.

Same with Newark, same with many other cities.

I'm not big on Newark. Sorry, Sheree. There are highly rated
restaurants in the Ironbound section, however.

But Camden is probably the
worst. (my husband used to have to go there quite often for work, he deals
in affordable housing)(

Yes, Camden has a way to go.

I miss some of the restaurants in the ironbound section. We used to go
to Spain very often, when we lived in Staten Island. Don't know if it is
still there or not.

The cow and I took a half-day city tour of Camden and quite enjoyed it! It
was part of tour a "Tacky US State" special.
