Maybe I ought to look at NCL reviews on the net. I'm glad you had a good
time with them. Thanks!

Doesn't the freestyle cruising get rather hectic and frenetic though- I
mean, how are theme nights organized (as in the waiters singing and

marching
about) if everyone is arriving at dinner at all times? I actually have
mixed feelings about the freestyle dining- I find it more threatening

than
the entry fee to JR's.

Waiters don't sing and march about on NCL that I have seen.

Freestyle dining seems like a much bigger departure to classic cruising

then
fees at JR's.

Still, I've never tried it- but most of my cruise partners have given me
horror stories about NCL- so I guess I'd have to try Princess? They do
this, too, don't they?

Well I've sailed NCL twice, and liked it, and would go again, never waited

more
than 15 minutes for a table, anywhere.

Personally I think it is wonderful that the larger ships are offering

more
options for people with different tastes. It is one reason I like

NCL's
freestyle cruising. I like the fine dining, and I like what they do in

the
dining rooms with Vegetarian Cuisine. I am not crazy about doing a

buffet
for dinner. But I am glad that I can take my kids along and they can

choose to
eat at Johnny Rockets.

It's not real good on the cruise ships either- frankly I'm astonished

that
there's people here stating that the food is better at JR's then in

the
main
dining rooms or the Windjammer! I guess we're talking the McDonald's

crowd?

Wait a minute, are you saying that NCL charges fees for freestyle dining?
Why would anyone like freestyle dining if this is the case? I thought
"freestyle" meant that you arrived for dinner whenever you wanted to... this
is plain wierd if what you say is true, Parnami.

Do you really think there's linkage here? Hey, do you consider it a charge
for room service if you tip the guy delivering your food? Just a thought.

The fees at JR's ARE a move towards freestyle at RCI! Today, it's a $4.00
charge at JR's, tomorrow an $8 dollar charge, and the introduction of

charges
for room service, then for "premium" items on the main dinner menu. THEN,
you'll find the "premium" list containing more items than those which are
provided as part of the cruise fare. The charges also will lead to

charges for
food served in the Promenade Cafe which, years ago, I pointed is designed

as a
pay for food venue.

If you don't like the idea of freestyle, you SHOULD BE VERY CONCERNED

ABOUT THE
CHARGES AT JOHNNY ROCKETS!

If you TRULY feel this way, then why are you on RCCL at all? Surely, not
for the burgers at JR's? Hee-hee!

My meals (never mind the wonders at Portofino's!!!) on Explorer of the Seas
last May were absolutely fantastic. Our friends who thought only Princess
lines had great food have switched to RCCL for good since their experience
on Navigator six months ago.

If Applebees even remotely approached the GREAT food quality we experienced
on the Explorer (or any of the RCCL ships we've been on) I'd be eating
there all the time! Applebees is just plain awful- too bad.

I don't know if you have been aboard a Voyager class RCCL ship lately, but
the steak served in the dining room as the "alternate choice" is not fit

for
human consumption. Overall, I could not say that the food on this class

of
ship (and I have been on four of the five) is "really GOOD to exquisite".
The Chops Grille serves the only dinners that can be considered anything

but
institutional. The rest is not all horrible, but not much better than
Applebee's.

Sad to say, yes- those with less refined tastes are getting aboard as

well.

On the other hand, they get a chance to eat really GOOD to exquisite

food
on
a cruise- they ought to take a break from their McDonald's (whoops-

JR's)
for just a week. Not only would it be an education for their taste

buds,
it
would be tremendously better for their overall health. (Well, at least
in-as-much as a week of 'good-eatin' could!) Most fast food chains

should
probably carry a warning label on the door!

It could have been far worse- RCCL could have installed Applebee's on

their
ships! Now there's a disaster. (Only restaurant that I've ever been in
that made a porterhouse steak taste absolutely awful! According to most
food-physics books, this is impossible- but not at Applebees. "eatin'

good
in the neighborhood" indeed. blech.) My wife and I will never darken

their
door again.

well put, it's a mystery to me, too.

I love the food at all the locales on RCCL's Voyager class ships- I'd rather
not sit near someone who hates it!

Between the marginal quality of the dining room food and the extreme
hassle (as a Platinum member soon to be Diamond this really ticks me
off)

Why would you cruise so often on a line that consistently disappoints
in what I would consider to be a very major aspect of cruising...the
food?

Hi Paul,

NCL has various venues onboard their ships where you will pay. They
also have dining areas that are "included" with your fare.
Any more questions, just ask!

NCL has free dining, indeed the majority of dining venues aboard ship are
included in the price. They also have 2 or three premium dining venues on
each ship, typically an instance of Le Bistro, their signature french
restaurant, a pan asian restaurant of some kind, and a steak place.

Note that they also have specialty restaurants which do not require extra
pay, traditional buffets which are free, and regular dining rooms (although
you can go to them any time) in addition to more casual snack places and
free room service.

I was shocked to find that there is a JR's in our neck of the woods-
Franklin Mills Mall!

I've tried to eat there on three separate occasions. Succeeded once! The other
two times I walked out after being ignored for 15 minutes....and no, I wasn't
dressed in rags or looking grumpy..it's just typical of the service provided.

The hamburger I ordered that time I was sucessful....was absolutely horrible!
A trail of grease ran down both my arms...no exaggeration. Without question
that was the worst burger I've eaten in my life!

BUT, the burgers served at JR's on RCI are quite good, the complete opposiite
of those for which I paid here in philly. It's a shame It's now doubtful I'll
ever have another since I refuse to pay for food on a ship! Oh well!

The JR's on RCI also indicate that they serve Nathan's hot dogs. Those ARE NOT
NATHAN'S!!

I just read on www.Cruise Critic.com that Royal Caribbean will now be
charging a $3.95 fee for eating at Johnny Rockets. The fee will also be for
take out orders. The fee started with the Mariner of the Sea this week and
will start March 13 on the Navigator of the Sea.
Of course the reason for the charge is the same one they use all the time,
"to manage demand for the restaurant".

Sorry if this was already posted.
