Default Verizon to drop Newsgroup Services

I received the following from my ISP - Verison:
....Because of the reduced demand for newsgroups,
on September 30, 2009, Verizon will discontinue
its USENET newsgroup service....
Fortunately there is still Google.
Cheers,
John in LALALand (On the Left Coast)

Friends don't let friends use Google. Many, including myself,
filter EVERYTHING that comes out of Google since they haven't even
attempted to prevent their servers from becoming Spam conduits.
There are a number of free or very cheap servers, especially if you
don't do binaries. I'll try get a couple suggestions to you.

Hi John & Kurt,

FWIW I have used Newsguy for many years and been most satisfied. They
have a new low cost option of $12 per 6 months. They can be found
surprisingly enough at http://newsguy.com/

Try Thundernews.com They are reasonable to start off with, and they offer a
discount to verizon internet customers. I had free usenet with optimum on
line, and when I switched to verizon fios I did not like their news server
which basically cut out usenet coverage. I then tried thundernews taking
advantage of their discount to verizon customers, and am very happy with the
price and service at thundernews for the usenat.

I have been using individual.net for a long time, going back to when it
was free and when we all called it the German Server. It is very
reliable and rarely has a problem.

John, I switched to eternal-september when AT&T did the same to me and so
far have been satisfied with them. Google is not the best way to go.
