Default FAA shutdown on Oct 1?

Legislation introduced in the Senate on Tuesday would extend airport
construction and security funding for half a year, allowing lawmakers
time to rethink a compromise version of the 2003 Federal Aviation
Administration reauthorization bill that leaves some air traffic
controllers vulnerable to job competitions.

Sen. John Rockefeller, D-W.Va., introduced the temporary FAA
reauthorization legislation so that Congress would not feel rushed to
pass the permanent four-year, $60 billion reauthorization bill before
Oct. 1, when funding for key aviation projects runs out

Bush to veto FAA reauthorization bill?

Likely.

Senate Democrats yesterday proposed an alternative to a Bush
administration plan to privatize air-traffic control at an additional
69 regional airports.
They want to keep Federal Aviation Administration air-traffic
controllers on the government payroll instead of turning their jobs
over to private companies.
Included on the list of control towers that would be privatized
are airports in Manassas and Newport News in Virginia.
"You do not fool with the air- transportation system," said Sen.
John D. Rockefeller IV, West Virginia Democrat.

Like Reagan?

Maneta (D) is promising "massive layoffs", as the alternative.

I believe AvWeb reported that the rockefeller bill was expected, and was
pretty much rumored to be pronounced 'dead on arrival'. It will be
interesting to see what really happens.

BTW: The biggest fight here....The contract towers have in fact saved
millions and have not been dangerous.

Rockefeller is a man who bought an office and certainly should go sit down.

Yes and if the NAATC blocks the budget, there will be hell for their members
to pay.

The Air Speed Indicator (ASI) shows

You made that up, didn't you?

The IAS indicator says IAS, not ASI.

Why do you come here pretending to know something
when you don't even know the words?

The North American Association of Teachers of Czech (NAATC) is going to
block the FAA budget?

Try National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA).

Jesus, can't get anything right can he?
