I am amazed,we sent away our renewal for passports, and in only 2 weeks
we got them back today. I did not think we would get them so soon.

That's good to know, Annie. Ours expire next May but with our taking cruises
in December and March, I guess we should re-new before our Viking's cruise
in December to make sure we get them in time. Guess the back log for
re-newing them is over.

JEAN:
Our new passports are a bit different than the other ones,we have to
fill in near the back who is to be notified in case of emergency, and
must be done in pencil,so it can be erased and updated if necessary, also
say's it does not prove citizenship,I thought you had to be a
u.s.citizen to get a valid passport, and it proved you were a citizen.

I have to chuckle. After submitting my application I attempted to track it
online along with using the "email me" option.

Every time I tried to track the progress I received a message that stated it
was not in the system yet. The site also suggested it may take 7-10 days for
it to appear.

After several days and checking my online bank statement, I noticed the
check had been cashed. However I still hadn't received any confirmation it
was in the system.

Two weeks 1 day after submission, my passport did arrive.

Not too bad to get from/to AZ.

IIRC, my expired passport was sent from MD while I initially sent it to PA.

In any event, at least I'm current for another 10 years.

Backlogs were resolved months ago. State Dept hired a couple of
hundred additional people, after everyone paniced. I have seen people
getting renewals in under two weeks and new passports in as little as
three.

I just did a passport renewal via an advertised "Passport Fair" at our
local post office. I printed out the passport form online and came to
the post office where my picture was taken. I then submitted the
paperwork, my old passport, plus the fee and that was that.

I'm not sure whether it was a mistake or not, but the post office
didn't charge for taking my picture (or perhaps it was part of the
Passport Fair price?). This was considerably easier than the last time
around.

FYI, turn-around time to receive my passport back in the mail was 3
weeks.

Bon voyage. -- Rik
