Yes, Virginia, there is a cost to outsourcing. |

It seems that they learned NOTHING from Alaska 261, other than how to make more excuses and choose their words more carefully. I personally think that 261 is the worst crash in history, especially from a suffering standpoint. The pilots were true heroes; it's evident from the CVR transcript that they piloted that bird until the second it hit the water (what always gets me is Captain Tamsky ordering "Speedbrakes!" less than ten seconds before impact). The passengers aboard that airplane knew that they were in serious trouble for the hour prior to the final descent. The rational mind will not allow you to conceptualize the final 90 seconds of that flight. Alaska Airlines is unsafe; I will never, ever fly them. |

Ah, yes, but given their dismal maintenance history, does outsourcing HELP matters? Alaska couldn't even handle proper maintenance procedures on their own premises. It seems to me that outsourcing is running an even bigger risk. I will never, ever fly Alaska, for many reasons; all of them do stem from 261, however. If you are a CVR transcript reader, examine how Alaska Airlines maintenance basically blows off the cockpit crew of crippled jet. I don't think anything could have brought that bird down safely, but the Alaska Airlines maintenance dispatch is almost cavalier about the situation, so much so that Captain Tamsky comments upon it. |
