Just avoids downmarket mass produced stuff sold cheap in low end supermarkets. Exactly, but unless there's some European sausage which is being hidden from me, the better ones available in the supermarkets are very good in comparison. -- David Horne- http://www.davidhorne.net usenet (at) davidhorne (dot) co (dot) uk http://homepage.mac.com/davidhornecomposer http://soundjunction.org |

Following up to Martin Sausage quality is hugely up. In general probably still the worst, pun not intended, in Europe. they are a completely different thing from most Euro sausages. It depends. The US and Canada both have huge immigrant populations and they brought their sausage recipes and techniques with them. My experience with "breakfast sausage" which I understand to be our version of "bangers" has not been entirely positive. Most of the commercial versions have been best described as disgusting, but there are some smaller butcher jobs who make pretty good breakfast sausages. Several local butchers make a wide variety of really good sausages. Some of the local farmers markets also offer really good sausages. Admittedly, you have to search for good sausages here. When travelling in Europe I had sausages in several restaurants, which I would assume to have commercial suppliers, and they were really good, much better than I would expect to find in a restaurant here. |
