i've heard about "backpacker car markets" in australia... which mostly
sell vans and campers and such things... what about these markets...
do they sell reliable cars??? are the prices conformable??? are there
lots of these markets in the big cities???
did anybody ever have experiences with these backpacker car

Used car sellers are always a dodgy bunch!! Two essentials whenever you buy
a used car.
#1. Get it checked by a realiable mechanic.
#2. Get a REVS check. It ensures the car you are buying is not stolen, nor
subject to finance. Every state Transport Department has something similar.
You can get it completed over the phone at a cost of about $10 to your
credit card.

I'm sure they exist, somewhere. But I've driven motorhomes and a caravan
all over the south-east from Rocky to the Yorke peninsula and never seen
one.

The risks you would be taking in roadworthiness, proof of ownership and
insurance would be enough to deter me. Especially when you are buying,
by definition, from someone who is leaving the country.

You would probably be better off contacting a reputable used motor-home
seller and arranging a buy-back agreement. It may work out cheaper than
rental. If you do decided to buy, make sure you arrange adequate
insurance and join the appropriate road-side service organisation.

For prices, see
www.carsales.com.au for cars or
http://www.cmca.net.au/markets/marke...arketplace.htm for
motorhomes.

Even if you just rent a motorhome, www.cmca.com.au is a very useful
site.

Cheers, Alan

Go to tradingpost.com.au and buy privately. Stuff the dealers, they're the
same all over the world.

PS if you really insist on the backpacker car circuit, TNT mag (available at
backpackers' everywhere) has a selection and hints.
