American Airlines discloses personal data
Matt wrote:
Well what if the plan from SJC to SNA blows out of the sky? Don't you think it might be nice to know what passengers were on that plane, and what hotel they stayed at the night before, and if they checked in with someone else that's now on a plane from SJC to JFK? If the speed limit for freeways was 50 mph and obeyed by everyone, there would be less deaths. Is it reasonable for the goverment to have knowledge of everything we do in our lives, for the VERY rare occassion when it might matter. What actually would they do in the scenario you have described, shoot down the SJC-JSK fligh??? The odds would be that by the time they figured out the scenario, the SJC-JFK flight would have landed safely or blown up. And, for these extremely rare events, you want government to keep track of where you go? Maybe we should just force everyone to wear collars with GPS included, so the government can keep track of us all of the time. That way, they will know when we are someplace we shouldn't be. |

Funny.....you get all worked up about the government tracking your library books, but you don't care that they keep track of how much money you earn, how you spend your money, how many dependents you have, etc. Doesn't make sense. I don't have to report all of my dependents or deductions if I don't want to. Or how about when you go to get a drivers license and they finger print you? Why do they do this? In case you commit a crime!! They do it to tell one person for another. You know.. For ID. A DL is used for ID. They took my footprint at birth, was that in case I commited a crime? Again, you don't seem to mind that the government has a database with your fingerprint, but they look to see what library book your checking out.....that's where you draw the line???.....I have to laugh. Having a fingerprint for ID purposes is not the same thing as tracking my reading and travel habits.... Do you not see this? |

American Airlines discloses personal data
This has all been fun and hope there's no hard feelings, but I'm leaving
tomorrow morning and will be gone all week on business so guess you all will have the last words on this topic. Just hope an itinerary of SMF-LAS-RNO-SFO-SNA-SMF doesn't trigger any security alerts....If you don't hear from me ever again, it probably means they arrested me and sent me off to Guantanamo Bay for checking out the Koran from the local library......hahaha Matt "Matt" wrote in message ... I'm still waiting for you or "nobody" to come up with a reasonable example of how collecting this data can harm you. .......still waiting.... Matt "mtravelkay" wrote in message . com... What is the need in fighting terrorism for them to collect data on all the people that fly from SJC-SNA, among other places. |

This kind of stuff has been cause for governmental persecution in the past. |

So, you are in favor in putting US citizens in prison camp if we ever go to war against the country of their ancestry? The US Govrernment has officially called this a mistake, and rightfully so. --==++AJC++==-- |

American Airlines discloses personal data
In article ,
Matt wrote: Would you prefer that they just let us all travel anonymously? Of course that is not an option. Why not? Anyone who wants to exert the effort can fly anonymously now. The data that is being collected, is being collected from those who make no attempt to hide it, generally because they think they have nothing to hide. Competent bad guys have access to false documentation of all sorts. The data that will be captured by these programs will provide data the government will use to select Americans for more obstreperous "investigations," without preventing any terorist crimes. There are two alternative philosophies in conflict here. One is that the government is us, and should collect any information that it feels might help it to protect us. The other is that the government is an organization that inherently seeks to expand its power, and should be entrusted with information only on a need-to-know basis. The US has generally professed the second philosophy, but many Americans advocate the first. -- Randy Hudson |
