Had to get a copy of mine a few years ago. If you go in person, it's a
2 hour turnaround. Write-in, up to 2 months. VitalChek, they say 8-12
business days, but I got it in only one week. Worth it if you're in a
hurry.

you can also try www.vitalcheck.com. Used them about 3 times and have always
gotten our birth certificates in less then 2 weeks.

I've had to get two b.c.s replaced in NJ. Once for me and once for my
sister. I had to go to the actual town of our births, then paid a
nominal fee (under $10) for a new one. Where in NJ were you born? If
it's close to where I am (Bergen) I might be able to help.

Thanks Karen, I'm "supposed" to leave friday next week
Does he know anyone that he may be
able to put a bug in their ear?

Here's what happened; I applied with VitalCheck mid August and they said it
would be about 3 weeks tops. Well I checked back often and they said they
submitted my app but have had no response from Trenton. They then sent a
status request but still have not gotten a response.
Monday, I called the county office where I was born and they said no problem
we'll ship it Wednesday. I though that was great. I had to pay twice but at
least it was over.
She called me today to tell
me that my names is spelled wrong on my birth certificate and I'll have to
go back to Trenton, through Vitalcheck! I called them and they said "oh
that'll take at least
a month, you could go by the Trenton office in person."

What I need now is someone to tell me what I need to do to rectify the birth
certificate and walk it through the process so I can get it to me in time to
leave!

Clay, is this something that you have to have ASAP? Hubby and I will
be off cruising for ten days starting Friday, he's in Trenton today
and off tomorrow, so he can't help right now, but will definitely
when we get back, if it can wait that long and is a problem that
doesn't get fixed by then.

I was born in Point Pleasant Hospital which is no longer there. I think
you're a little to far north, and I suspect I'm going to need someone
on the inside at Trenton Vital statistics.

I sure hope I can get this resolved!

I'll bet. Like I said in an earlier post, he's in Trenton, himself,
today, tomorrow he's not in the office at all, but when he calls later
before he gets ready to leave for home, I'll ask.

Clay, I don't know how NJ Vital Statistics operate, but in PA, I needed a
copy of my birth certificate and I went to the County Courthouse in the
county where I lived and even though I needed to correct a serious mistake
in my name, it was done right there with a notary witnessing it and I
immediately got a corrected copy..I brought with me a copy of my Baptismal
Certificate for proof of my correct name and I can't even remember whether
it was required, as it was quite a while ago.

Good Luck!

I've tried both. I got no response at all from Trenton. I managed to contact
the office that also has the records, but when they found out there was an
error on the birth certificate, they said you'll have to go to Trenton.

If anyone knows someone who actually works in the Trenton office I would
REALLY appreciate having them contact me!

trenton vital statistics are tough to deal with. you won't believe the
runaround we had when my husband needed his ex-wife/s death certificate.
