Traveling in Spain during Easter Week
Hi, I will be traveling to Spain around April 6th to meet up with my
daughter and her boyfriend, who are living and working in Valladolid. We are planning to rent a car on Friday, April 7th and slowly (over 2 days) make our way down to Granada, arriving on Palm Sunday (April 9th) and staying there until Tuesday or Wednesday. We then plan to be in Seville on Wednesday for the last half of the Semana Santa activities (we already have accommodations reserved). What I would like to know is whether anyone can recommend places to see on the drive down from Valladolid to Granada that are note-worthy. Also, I know that reservations in the larger towns and cities like Granada and Seville are mandatory during the week of Semana Santa, but what about small towns in the 2 days leading up to Palm Sunday? We were planning on winging it on the drive down to Granada, but I'd hate to spend half the day trying to find accommodations. Thanks for any help you can give me. |

Traveling in Spain during Easter Week
Though I couldn't find a 2006 schedule to link:
http://www.exploreseville.com/events/toros.htm (2005 schedule) you will note there will probably be similar scheduling around the April festival. A Bullfight I say!!! I don't know your 'politics' on the issue but I found the events I attended thrilling; particularly a match in Granada where the great 'El Fandi' took on all Six bulls in a solo performance. Also to mention that Sevilla and Granada look like something out of National Geographic during the festival times; get out in the streets and enjoy the amazing spectacle! A Bullfight I say!!! Agreed. Have you read what I've written on the subject, and El Cordobés, in this forum? I haven't the time to look for it right now. I also urge you to read "Semana Santa en España" http://geocities.com/iconoc/Articles/SemanaS.html __________________________________________________ _________________ A San Franciscan in (where else?) Traveling in Spain during Easter Week
Thanks to everyone. I did do a search and found some interesting
material, and there is lots on Semana Santa - however, I'm pretty familiar with the festivities. What I'm really looking for is information on the small towns in the area, and also on the drive down from Valladolid. Are there any noteworthy towns besides the obvious big 3? For example, I've heard Rhonda (Ronda?) is worth a look once we're down there - is this true? Also, speaking of bullfights, it was my impression that the bullfighting season doesn't begin until Easter Sunday? Is this true? |
