KLM, Air France to merge?
A news article reporting that Air France, plus their subsidiary Alitalia
and KLM are seriously contemplating a virtual merger, making the largest European airline. http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentSe...=1059479911331 Given their existing associations with Delta, Continental, and Northwest, it would make a powerful combination. |

It's not a merger. Everything else I've read says AF is trying to buy KLM. - Manuel. |

It's not a merger. Everything else I've read says AF is trying to buy KLM. It won't be a merger and AF won't buy KL. It will be a co-operation agreement with an equity swap. (but only a minority interest of AF in KL and vice versa) The Dutch government delayed the annoucement of the co-operation this week as they want guarantees that the position of Schiphol Airport will remain important. Anyway, the AF/KL would be stupid to re-routes flights from one of the best airports in Europe to one of the worst. Sjoerd |

In the case of Air France and KLM, the European Community rules seem to be preventing them getting together closer than just a cooperative agreement. |

KLM, Air France to merge?
"AJC" schreef in bericht news Sjoerd, I think you are basing that last statement on your visit to CDG1. The AF hub at CDG2 is most certainly not one of the worst in Europe. Though not up to the standard of Schiphol, it is superior to Heathrow. Three years ago, I did AMS - CDG - NSI - CDG - AMS on AF via CDG2 and the transfer at CDG (especially on the outbound flight) was a complete disaster. I had to literally climb over passengers' bags to get to my gate. I also transited at CDG once from RG (GRU to CDG) to AF (CDG to AMS) which was also a total mess. (totally inadequate signage, long bus ride between terminals) Even LHR is better than CDG, IMHO. Sjoerd |
