Default Other People Envious of Your Travels?

Are you sure? They sound rather passive-aggressive to me.

For example, if I say I'm going
away I can tell they are jealous, to some degree. One time it seemed
that if I traveled they had to take a trip too just to be on equal
status. Very strange. If I come back and they ask what I did and that
something was really fun they get jealous and resentful. Also they know
that since I'm traveling I'm spending larger sums of money than usual
and question why I don't buy this or that instead or say things like
"You could afford to go to France but you only spend x on your nephews
birthday"?

I would be getting some new friends and relatives. What kind of thing
is that to say?

It troubles me that these negative emotions arise. I want to do my part
to stamp out any kind of envy and jealousy in this world. I think back
years ago and I must say I have felt those emotions when someone else
got to travel, won the prize, etc.. Now I have none of these emotions.
I always wish the other people the best of luck. I think I have matured
in a good way on this issue but people close to me have not. Does
anyone know how to neutralize these emotions in others? I say things
like "I've worked hard all year and I'm taking a vacation" but that
doesn't work. Any ideas?

Stop giving a **** about what other people think. People respect you
more when you think independently of them.

Is that your guiding principle here Mr Muffin?

a lot of people use travel as a status symbol, ticking off this
years fashionable probably long haul destination. As we
repeatedly go to Spain, regarded as low prestige by such people,
we don't get any envy that I notice, but then I probably wouldn't
notice anyway. A lot of people at the moment seem to be going to
dull beach holidays in improbably distant places where they sit
in isolated compounds, drinking and eating the "included"
sanitised fare. Don't fancy that much.

I get the impression that Scavi tours are on the fashionable list
right now.

I hate travel, and I absolutely do not envy people who engage in it.
I wonder how they can stand it.

I think you should stamp out greed and hatred at the same time.

Oh and have a go at gluttony first, that should be an easy one to start
with.

Depends upon where you are traveling! It's hard to resist
the "exotic" cuisine, and bread throughout most of Europe is
even more irresistible!
