The Norwegian Epic, which debuts in June, will have staterooms for solo travelers who won't have to pay the single supplement. The Epic, which launches this summer, will offer 128 studios for singles. The cabins open onto a lounge area where solo travelers can socialize. This was in the Travel section of the St. Petersburg Times (Fl.) Sunday 2-7-10. They feel there's a large market out there for this. I agree. Good idea....to bad its on NCL. |

I had to cancel a cruise in January following major surgery on my spine. I am now praying that I will be able to cruise on March 9th. My 6 week checkup with my surgeon is on Feb 25th and I am slowly on the road to recovery. I had to learn to walk following this operation. I am also booked on the Oasis in October. snip Ermalee NO WAY are you done cruising just because your numbers say 82. NO WAY. My mom cruised with me up into her late 80's, and some people go on beyond that. Hope you heal up soon and feel better in time for your cruise. You know George Bernard Shaw said, "We don't stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing." My father-in-law took a cruise to Alaska when he was 95. He's now 101 and still travels. Keep on trucking! |

This is good news, and I went to the web site and viewed the teeny staterooms which open onto the "lounge". Is it just me, or does this look like it's designed for the age 20-30 crowd who are looking for college dorm accomodations. I didn't see of us age 60-80 passengers perched on those little bar stools. The cabins are about 100 sq ft, that is pretty small. If you do not spend any time in your cabin, I guess it would work. Becca |

Becca I was looking at them, and I could do just fine solo, as I spend little time in the cabin. Just a tad bit worried that it may turn into "Party Central".. with a lot of late night noise. But that's what ear plugs are for ;-) Too bad it's on NCL, but I may give it a shot just to check out NCL once again. Stephen in FLL |

But that's what ear plugs are for ;-) I guess my observation was based on the thought that NCL may have missed one of their most lucrative potential customer groups.... Those elderly widows or widowers (or older singles) who used to cruise with spouse and now no longer have the protective attention paid to "COUPLES"! They may have no interest whatsoever in meeting and greeting and socializing and hooking up in a singles lounge. "Price per person based on double occupancy" has needed fixing for a long time, but I'm not sure the solo lounge concept is the answer. What's wrong with the general population? -- Barbara |

You will be on the Oasis, no choice about it. If we don't go down to The Villages precruise, we could arrange to fly out of Philly together. That way your kids would know you aren't traveling along. sue Absolutely! we will have to keep in touch regarding good air fares when the time comes. If you go to the Villages first, maybe we could at least fly back together --- or maybe I could go to the Villages with you. My daughter in law's parents live there and would love for me to visit. I know you can prove them wrong. BTW, if we had to, we would carry you onto that ship. Cruising is a lot more fun with you, than without you. Becca xoxo Well, I have my docs and air for the Regatta 12 day cruise in March, with insurance (very costly at my age) to cover it. If I can go on that one, could I fail to show uup on the Oasis? LOL Having you carry me aboard should be interesting, even though I have lost 10 pounds during this illness. Maybe I'll gain some of it back befor, or at least ON the cruise. Thanks Becca. Ermalee |
