Default Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area

Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area

It boasts six main scenic spectacles, all of which make Jiuzhaigou a
'fairyland': the Long Lake, Sword Cliff, Nuorilang, Shuzheng, Zaru,
and Black Lake.

In the 1970s, a group of lumbermen found by chance a luxuriant virgin
forest, and then a brilliant valley. All were fascinated. Later, the
area was ranked on the list of the China National Natural Reserve and
the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage. That is Jiuzhaigou,
one of the most popular scenic attractions in China today.

Located in Nanping County about 400 kilometers (249 miles) from
Chengdu City, the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area is bordered by nine Tibetan
counties and covered by thick primitive forests, which occupy more
than half of the scenic area (about 620 sqare kilometers /153,205
acres), home to rare flowers and animals such as pandas.

Nature subtly ornaments three major gullies like the letter 'Y' with
some 108 crystal clear lakes, interwoven with clusters of waterfalls,
brooks, shining snowy mountains and serene forests. Legend has it that
a fairy was presented a mirror by her lover, but became so excited
that she accidentally broke it into 108 pieces. Thus those clear
colorful lakes were endowed with immortal beauty.
