"Becca" wrote in message ... My first cruise was on the Stella Solaris for 3 weeks. We had a big anniversary coming up and I thought we deserved something special. I did not tell my husband, because I wanted it to be a surprise. I talked to a travel agent and I booked the cruise. He did not want to go! I told him that I had paid for two people, and I was going with or without him. He went, dragging his feet as if he was on his way to a guillotine. Needless to say, he loved it. When I saw the Stella Solaris, it was HUGE! Compared to the new ships, it was really tiny. LOL We cruised with 600 other people, that will tell you how small the ship was. The swimming pool was tiny, so were the bathrooms. Sammy said he could take a shower, go to the bathroom and brush his teeth all at the same time. http://www.maritimematters.com/stella-solaris1.html Thanks for this interesting link, Becca..My how things have changed..such a sharp shaped rectangular pool and what a spartan looking luxurious suite!! We are so spoiled now that we would not accept an inside cabin that looked like that! --Jean |

"Doctor Mike" wrote in message ... I was just going through all the memorabilia from all our cruises and came across our very first cruise. Do you remember your first cruise and itinerary? June 1956 Conte Biancamano of Italia Line. This was a Mediterranean cruise disguised as a line voyage. New York Lisbon Gibraltar Cannes Genova (disembarked) ship continued to: Palermo Napoli Mike, you have *disembarked* after Genova..Does that mean that is as far as you sailed or the only port that you disembarked? Nice itinerary. --Jean |

"D Ball" wrote in message ... Jean, Great thread. Thanks for stoking good memories. You're welcome, Diana! We looked like the Clampitts arriving in port with all sizes and shapes of luggage and boxes overflowing with live door wreaths, table-top artificial trees, twinkle lights, wrapped gifts, etc. (Don't forget, the kids were young, and we were taking them away from the magic of waking up Christmas morning at home, so maternal guilt drove me to re-create the holidays aboard ship!) We brought a big box of gifts for the Roatan orphanage, and we brought presents for crew members. And we had clothes galore! My family will never forget that one because I had learned of the theme nights (Country & Western, 50's and Caribbean) and packed outfits accordingly. Luckily, the kids were still young enough, they happily agreed to dress up! I didn't remember until this thread that Craig had put something up about this one. You can see a few 1st cruise moments captured he http://www.ballpoint.org/norwegiansea.html You are sooo organized taking all those Christmas things with you and remembering the crew and the orphans at Roatan, too! Loved your site...no wonder you have such fond memories of the Norwegian Sea...She still remains one of my favorites even though I don't have all the wonderful memories that you have from cruising on her. I really enjoyed them..thanks for sharing! --Jean |

"Ermalee McCauley" wrote in message ... Our first cruise was on Carnival's m/s Tropicale in 1992. Three couples went to the AAA travel office, and booked with an agent who forgot to send in our final payment before she went on vacation. Someone there managed to fix it, with some prodding from us. We never booked with them again, but have other friends who book with AAA exclusively. You shoulda' bcome a T/A like Tom, Erm!! Final payment ..wow! How close to sailing was that? --Jean |
