Default tulip trees?

I've seen these "tulip trees" in both Hawaii and Mexico in the winter
months. They have orange upright tulip-like flowers above the leaf
canopy. Searching the net for tulip trees brings up a U.S. tree with
yellow flowers related to the magnolia family. These are much different
than the Mexican/Hawaiian tree. Can any one help with a name or genus
for this tropical version?

Jim, I think this may be it:

Spathodea campanulata, African tulip tree. Large tree from tropical
Africa with large flowers and pinnately compound, opposite leaves that
are prevalent in the family. Winged seeds like those in the third
photo also commonly occur in species of the family that have dehiscent
fruit.

For pictures of it go to:

Cheers,
Ann

You might try contacting Rupert Evans, Arborist at Butchart Gardens,
Victoria British Columbia. The horticultural
staff is very busy but will answer questions regarding the gardens and
help you identify a plant even if they don't grow it in the garden.

You might also try locally seeking out information services from a state
or university agricultural extension. Also, have you tried these key
words in Google "tulip tree" + "mexico" +"horticulture" without
quotes? If the results don't give you what you want to know, try
changing the sequence of the keywords or surrounding them all in quotes:
"Mexico horticulture tulip tree" or "Mexico Trees Identification".
