"Our luxury ship, Regatta, sails with just 684 guests allowing for a more
intimate cruise experience. Relax in an onboard country club-casual
atmosphere where tuxedos and gowns are never required."

As this is always a hot topic...I thought I would get the RTC opinion on
this blurb from Oceania Cruises....It appears that they are giving guests
the option of not dressing up. Now I am SURE that this is going to ruin
someone's cruise experience, but NOT mine. I just completed my 15th
cruise...and guess what I didn't go to the Captains Cocktail party, but I
did wear a Jacket in the Dining room...How about it guys? going to ditch the
TUX and go native???? I am!

What's next Shorts and Jeans in the Dinning room...OMG

Having cut my teeth in 1969 when a man would never enter the dining room for
dinner without at least a tie and jacket, I cannot promise that I will wear
a tie on half of the evenings of our Hawaii excursion which begins on
Saturday.

On today's ships dress is what the pax is comfortable with.

On HAL ships we have found that people DO sort of dress the code, and we
have never found ourselves next to anyone in shorts.

Shorts for dinner on formal night? Doubtful, but it is relaxing to ware
them on the first night for dinner (also for breakfast & lunch). I'm on
your side as far as dressing for dinner but I do stay dressed long enough to
let the photog take his table picture.
The Captains Cocktail party is an overrated money maker for the photo dept.
+ watered down drinks & orderves before dinner.

Rick,

The Oceania is following in the tradition of their predecessor Renaissance.
Renaissance had no formal nights either. Also like Renaissance they are
giving away cruises thus attracting people like you who don't understand
what they're getting but go because the price is cheap. Then they bitch
about how others dress.

If you tried a real cruise line (Silversea, Crystal, Seabourn) you would
find that gentlemen still dress properly for formal night. But since you
can't buy these cruises for $399 so we probably won't see you aboard.

That's a real shame.

After getting indoctrinated by a couple of Freestyle cruise I've
pretty much ditched the tuxes. I now carry a sport coat and tie for
any and all "dressy" nights.

I really have come to dislike the 4 levels of dressiness that some
lines are advocating. With casual, informal, semi-formal, and formal
it's just too confusing and requires packing too many clothes.

Actually I could live with the old days style of just wearing a tux
every night. At least I wouldn't have to pack a lot of different
outfits.

BTW my next 3 cruises are NCL,NCL, and Oceania, all without formal
dress.

Hello.... I like the formal nights-- Tux and all. A touch of class is
one of the reasons I like to cruise. ...If I wanted casual, I would stay
home, turn on the travel channel, and order out from Dennys. ...I
usually dress for most cruise dinners, anyways. Even for "Casual"
nights, I'll still put on a sports jacket. ...Jon
