Whats up with the lack of cruises out of Tampa? Is this port winding down?
Any feedback appreciated!

One of the Crystal ships was supposed end its autumn 2005
trans-Atlantic cruise in Tampa; then do a round trip and then leave
Tampa for a trans-canal cruise. We signed up for one but they soon
changed Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale. We unsigned up (signed down?).

The problem with the port of Tampa is there are limited options available.
Anything going to the east must sail around Key West, so the port is limited
to western Caribbean itineraries. Also, the port is way inland (a good
three hours sailing to get under the Sunshine Skyway bridge), and that
bridge limits the heights of cruise ships using the port of Tampa.

That said, Tampa is getting more and more ships as Carnival plans on running
two ships out of there year round, and Holland America, Royal Caribbean, and
Celebrity all running regular itineraries from there.

No , Carnival dominates in Tampa. They have been running 2 ships out of
there for years. I have done 4 trips out of Tampa and like it better
than Miami and New Orleans. The port of New Orleans was a zoo. I would
not sail out of there again if the cruise was free.

Sorry you had problems with the port in New Orleans. I have cruised out
of this port 3 times and we had no problems. The porters were courteous
and the check-in staff was friendly.

Becca -----not thrilled with the port in NY though...
