Wow, you American survivalists are so butch. You know what? I think you've
simply evaded the issue at every turn; that there are significant
differences in the construction and design of weapons intended use in
sporting events, and military weapons - and you know it. And guess what? I
think your fatuous macho claims about experience of IEDs, like your
so-called violent crime statistics, is pure, unadulterated fantasy.

Now, take your hand off your weapon for five minutes and give us a kiss
big-boy.

Naw, we haven't even started to live and farm on the oceans yet.

Have you looked at the mess we are making of fishing stocks?

You are mistaking hunter/gatherer actions with farming.

Plenty of fish farming here, plenty of mess from it.
In general when we have figured out how to live at the bottom of
the sea we can stop worrying about finite rescourses, or maybe
not....

How we convert our
growth based, polluting, finite resource consuming economies to
that is a very difficult question.

Why should we? We have an infinite universe to expand into.

when that is the position, *maybe* we can stop worrying about the
small planet we are limited to.
Until then its the big question Bush and co refuse to even
contemplate.

How so? The US isn't over populating. The only practical source of large
amounts of power to replace fossil derived sources is nuclear power. The
Bush administration supports that.

Who said US was over populating? Its over consuming and over
polluting, similar to here but more so, the Bush administration
supports that too by not signing up to international treaties.

that is indeed the big point.

Therefore conservation isn't a long term solution.

And because the economy has to grow,

No, that is exactly the point that has to be addressed. We cannot
carry on long term in a growth based system. People don't want to
address it of course. Capitalist growth based economics have
served us well in becoming rich, the future will have to be
something else we have not worked out yet. That is obvious to
anyone with an open mind, how to do it is not.

Please provide me with the citations that, for example, an Anschutz
ISU Free Rifle was designed to be a man killer. Or a Hammerli match
pistol, or even a Marlin 60, which everyone seems to have one of.

you originally spoke of the "Magnum". I did ask you what that
was for but you didn't answer. If you want to deceive yourself as
to what guns are for, go ahead, but you cant expect many to go
along with you or even bother to argue.

gun
noun a weapon incorporating
a metal tube from which
bullets, shells, or other
missiles are propelled by
explosive force
weapon
a thing designed or used for inflicting bodily harm
or physical damage

Odd..I used a bayonet far more times in slicing meat, opening cans and
boxes, cutting bread etc than I plunged them into human bodies. Both
have a cutting edge and a point. Im curious..if a kitchen knife was
not designed to be plunged into human beings..how come so many of them
are used for exactly that? Far more than firearms btw.

the fact that other things are also dangerous does not make guns
good, will you never understand that?

You were quoting a "Magnum" before. What is that designed for?

To launch our projectile in a faster trajectory with more kinetic
energy.

answer the question.

They are designed to launch a projectile at a target.

...with the intention to kill it.

If someone fences for sport, are they trying to kill their opponent?

No. Any more irrelevant red herrings about sport or hunting?

Guns are designed to harm, sorry if you don't like the fact and
want to hide behind the idea that the existence of specialised
"sport" weapons make that untrue. Target shooting is a spin off
from the existence of guns, as javelin throwing came from the war
spear.

So are javelins designed to harm? And is a Hum-Vee designed to harm?

Sport Javelins no, (but derive from something that was and can
still be used to harm), war spears yes. The Hum Vee is designed
to harm the environment in private hands and you could argue it
is designed to save our soldiers lives or you could argue it
designed to assist in killing other soldiers. Are you just trying
to bore me into giving up the argument?

Would someone like to answer my question as to is it a good thing
when in a car crash road rage incident they like the other driver
to
a) have a gun?
or
b) not have a gun?

because guns are designed to harm, cars are designed to get from
A to B, (please don't bother to reiterate the hunting red
herring).

Are darts "designed to harm"? Are bow and arrow "designed to harm"?

see earlier answer.

Both nukes and missiles are weapons with large destruction zones far
larger than the 1" or smaller impact zone of a firearms projectile,
wth the attendant long term radiation etc, none of which is inherent
with firearms.

so firearms are OK because they only make a small hole, how
laughable.

Plastic explosives are daily used by the public. All manner of
explosives are used on farms and ranches. In fact, in the US, in most
places it far easier to purchase legally 50lbs of dynamite, than it is
to legally purchase a firearm. Think about that data point for a
moment...

Then you need to think about better explosives controls maybe.
And for the n'th time giving examples of something else dangerous
does not make having guns a good thing.
