Queensland in sep-oct what next after Cairns?

Hi all
Last year it was Cairns Port Douglas and about...2 weeks werent enough !
Once you get used to these parts, would Brisbane-Townsville be just as
thrilling?
We loved the first journey and need a second trip to Oz which would be just
as enjoyable !
Maybe we shouldn't have started with north Queensland ?
Warm weather is also a must.

The Whitsundays are lovely! And should be warm, last October was dry and
just around 28-30 most days. In September you might still be able to "catch"
the whales off Airlie (or?). Go for a small(ish) boat.
Brissy is hardly thrilling, and I'd say pick Sunshine Coast and the
hinterland any time...
How much time do you have?
