Airbusses can withstand an shoulder fired SAM attack and still land
safely. Very important in Iraq these days.

I imagine he'd typed "an SAM attack" and then inserted "shoulder fired" to
make it more plausible.

As soon as the invadors are thrown out, you could expect a backlash against
corporations from the invading countries. Because Iraq is technically a US
territory right now (since the USA invaded it, cancelled the Iraqi
constitution and currency), Iraq doesn't have much of a choice but to obey its
new ditactor (Bush/Rumsfeld).

But as soon as they are gone, you can expect Iraq to shape itself as it wishes
and rekindle economic ties with whomever it wants.

No, no, no, that's not how it's done at all. Here's my ten step program
for retaining control over a previously occupied country. This method
has been tried and tested by most European nations when dismantling
their empires.

1/ Split the country into two or more hostile factions. (Handily this
has already been done for us in Iraq.)

2/ Pick a favourite from these.

3/ Pick your proposed leader from your favourite faction. He should be
active against the occupying power, which allows you to proceed to the
next step:

4/ Jail him. Make sure he gets slapped around a bit.

5/ Under international pressure, allow him to be released. Make sure
everyone finds out about his bad treatment in jail. Your selected leader
now has solid anti-occupying-power credentials.

6/ Hold elections.

7/ Your selected leader wins the election...

8/ ... but as his power base is mostly in one faction, he can't hold on
to his position without some help.

9/ As a gesture of contrition for previous misunderstandings, offer to
base an infantry division in his capital, train and supply his armed
forces, train and equip his police.

10/ If he falls for this (and he almost has to, in order to stay in
power) then he's in your pocket.

If Mr. Rumsfeld is reading this: Don't try to implement this plan and
then pretend that it was all your own idea. You won't get away with it:
everyone knows that you and your staff don't have your own ideas.
